After a vaguely concerning yet inspiring conversation with Stasius, you move on to the next island in the Platforms, which is above the Undertaker’s. This one also has much greenery, though many of them are low growing brush, herbs, and other medicinal supplies. The sole tree is in the center of the island, growing upward with ruby-red oak leaves--strange, considering it is not fall. As you alight on the island, another Fae crawls out of a large hollow in the tree, and you can see tree sap poking out of the top of the trunk in a dome. The Fae flutters to the floor and looks straight at you, despite having cloth over his eyes.
”Sorry, I wasn’t expecting a guest, otherwise I would have met you at the gate. I am Laswell, the witch doctor, do you require my services? I have potions and elixirs and many a magic spells.

Origins

There are several parts of Laswell’s story that have changed over time. First and foremost, Laswell was not born a male-bodied dragon, but as he was among the many hatchlings without parents he adopted masculine pronouns and name with no trouble, bypassing any need to change his social identity. Secondly, Laswell was born in the frigid lands of the Southern Icefiends, but quickly took to the road and became a nomadic dragon of sorts, leaving behind any homeland tradition he may have begun with. Thirdly, and possibly most important to Laswell himself, though he began his life entirely alone with nary a friend of familial relationship, he managed to accumulate five by the time he was considered an adult dragon. First was a Guardian dragon by the name of Vianola, who was an herbalist when Laswell met her; it was she who introduced Laswell to Witch Doctoring. Second was a Wildclaw named Luce, who had worked in a circus as a beast tamer--they were often known to say strange things like “I enjoy a good bear” with no context. Third was a quietly crafty Nocturne, Kailu, who had lived among a caravan as a lantern artisan, though was outcast due to his perceived “useless” art. Fourth was Ailas, who was a deaf Pearlcatcher who lived her entire life underground until Laswell discovered her. Finally there was a Tundra, Caeda, who had been a hermit in the woods for nearly a decade before Laswell quite literally dropped from the sky into their home, much to their annoyance. Having gathered a merry band of misfits, Laswell began to simply live life to enjoy it, trying to pull his friends out of their misery and loneliness as best he could. For a time it worked, but eventually the scales tipped against him; a crazed magician enchanted Vianola, casting aside her memories and ambitions in favor of their own destructive ones. Though the Misfits were Vianola’s charge, she turned against them as her mind left her, slaughtering them one by one, though Laswell managed to escape. He fled as fast as he could, eventually collapsing on the doorstep of the Galestorm Flyers, where he took up residence to continue his work as a Witch Doctor. He followed the Flyers to the Windswept Plateau, but has lost any love of the road, instead choosing to remain in the lair and work as he is needed.

Personality

Laswell is a true fae in terms of expression, as he speaks monotonously, shows no visible expression, and only portrays emotion via his fans. However, he has a great depth to his words and his actions. When he does speak, it is with an eloquence and diction that speaks of tone much more than cadence ever could, and he has been known to write small drabbles of poems on occasion. His actions are equally as impactful though in a subtler way; he often makes particular spells and elixirs for troubled dragons without their asking and gives them as gifts, and will leave a small talisman of luck or recipes for success as anonymous notes. These small kindnesses are not unnoticed by clanmates, and Laswell has found himself on the receiving end of many return gifts, a fact that baffles him in some manners. He saves each and everyone of these gifts in his lair, mementos of his current clan and examples of his success--they serve as reminders to what he has achieved. This is not to say Laswell has forgotten the Misfits and all the life they brought to him in the first place, he keeps mementos of them as well; for Vianola tigerlily petals, for Luce a bear pendant, for Kailu ghostly hanging lanterns, for Ailas an eye-covered cloak, and two bone antlers for Caeda. Though he has managed to venture forth and form friendships within the Flyers--Tayne, Socius, Echo, Zegami, and Scorn--they are not and likely never will be as close as the Misfits were. Laswell cannot quite bring himself to open himself up to that pain once more.
