Biography

KIEL

Uh-oh, looks like this canner wandered a little too far from their home lair (452562, Hyzenthlaay), and now they’re off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt them, we'd really appreciate it if you instead could just return them to their original home via the Crossroads, send them off in the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread (warning, you will get another traveler in return if you do this), or if you don’t want another traveler in return, this rest hub. You can also adopt them permanently if you don’t want them leaving your lair - just contact Hyzenthlaay and let her know (it’s good for her notes)!

Many people have worked very hard on this traveling dragon, and exalting them would be an absolute shame. Please don’t do it!

@Hyzenthlaay here! This dragon is officially a part of the "Around the World in 365 Dergs" challenge. Check out the thread for information and more travelers like this! ...or just read the following:
  • The general idea is that I am going to create 365 unique traveling dragons, send them off into the world, and see what happens. I'm also going to complete mini-challenges along the way using travelers. If that interests you, consider checking the challenge thread out!
  • I don't want to overflood the system with just my dragons, so adopting travelers from me to live in your lair is totally fine! In fact, I'm betting on it. Just let me know.
  • Always feel free to tell me when you have this dragon in your lair! I love hearing updates.

7wv9OeJ.png This is Fidelity! And she's a musician in training! Her methods are unlike any-other, as she uses electricity and objects of various make and materials to produce new and unusual sounds. If she outstays her welcome in your clan, please her back to the Dragons of To See the World Thread. Alternatively, you can choose to keep this dragon as a permament member of your clan, put her up for adoption, or return her to Kiln.

[Nowhere Islands] Aug 25, 2023 > Aug 25, 2023

His claws flick blood across the top of the aluminum cans, fast and hot from the quick of ground nails. This is the price of quick work. Slow work means slow business, and so too does quick on the occasion that the Sornieth economy has taken a downturn. But Kiel has been assured by the silent bosses that business is as usual, fluid macrophage through consumption's pulse and a headless fish in the walrus' feed bucket. The cans are as empty as ever. Matter is subject to will. Kiel takes his marker and scribbles the guarantee on each. "One Can of Pure Joy!" "One Rainy Day!" "One Finger Kiss From Mom!"

Kiel has never opened one of the cans. Kiel has never dared. All he does is travel the length of Sornieth, Bottling The Experiences the silent bosses ask of him. From the corners of festivals and the brimstone of funeral he peers through your clan, raking it for profit with those bloody fingers...

[Brass Union] Aug 25, 2023 > April 5, 2024
Volrin - The Purified Temple
Kiel had spent a long time in the presence of "The Spirited Lady" circus troupe, bottling the Experiences that the silent bosses requested. But his presence was beginning to cause more unease as of late -- dragons were starting to take notice of him, more than before. They now would interrupt their activities to awkwardly disperse when he approached them, making his task of collecting unnecessarily difficult. His production was beginning to slow... the bosses would not be pleased...

The Coatl would have to move on.

With the silent bosses advising his next course of action, as always, Kiel brought his work along with him to the Sunbeam Ruins, where he found himself at home with a clan residing in the Hewn City. They were an accommodating bunch, and while none of them could really understand his tin cans or the purpose of his work, they still provided Kiel with his own work quarters where the Coatl could focus on his canning in peace and quiet.

...or at least, what SHOULD have been in peace and quiet, before some strange, unnaturally-vibrant green Spiral took interest in Kiel, and started pestering the Coatl at every available opportunity. It made Kiel's job of bottling Experiences frustrating once again, this time because this strange 'Actinium' dragon couldn't keep his maw shut! His constant noisy intrusion made Kiel's task of observing the clan's dragons unnoticed, uninterrupted, almost impossible. Kiel resigned himself to staying in his room, finishing the cans he already had started, before he supposed he would have to be rid of this clan as well and move on to the next.

Even in his working quarters, however, Kiel could not be rid of the intruder. How was Actinium even managing to get in his room without making a sound, or even touching the door? Kiel was slightly intrigued, despite himself, but he made sure to quash that feeling down right quick. He had no time for gallavanting about with others, no matter how mysterious and peculiar he might find them; Kiel was a businessdragon, and he had his vital merchandise to think about. His tin cans -- and most of all, his silent bosses -- would always come first.

Despite Actinium making no progress in winning the Coatl over, Kiel noted with frustration that the Spiral was still as flirtatious and brazen as ever. He was unreceptive to any and all of Actinium's advances -- at times ignoring him intentionally, and others just too engrossed in his work to even notice the other's presence. It wasn't until Actinium asked Kiel if he had ever considered the prospect of having a travelling partner, someone to share the burdens of money, food, and luggage with, that the Coatl finally perked up a little.

"If I said yes to your offer, and we travelled to my next destination together, would you help me carry my tin cans?" The Coatl asked. He cringed at the pain in his throat, how hoarse and scratchy his voice had become from ages of silence.

"Abso-toot-ly!" Actinium beamed back at Kiel. "I'd even help you sell 'em at trading posts, if you could use the extra claw. If... ah... that's what you DO with them, anyways."

"I'm not so sure that would be necessary --" Kiel snapped, refuting the idea a bit fast. Damn. That would probably make the Spiral a little suspicious... "-- ahem... but if I did accept your offer to become a 'travelling duo,' as it were, would that be enough for you to offer me your silence in return? I don't think I've had a moment's peace since you first took 'interest' in me. I would appreciate the help, but the ensuing headache may not be worth it."

"Oh boo, you're no fun. But if it's what the sir needs, then my jaws are sealed. Ish." Actinium flaked a bit mid-sentence. Kiel could only assume that his intruder had next to no experience actually keeping his maw shut for a few minutes at a time. This could be entertaining...

...or annoying.

...

The next morning, Kiel and Actinium were off. The Coatl now observed his new assistant with great intrigue, which he tried to mask under his usual aloof demeanour, so as to not humour the Spiral -- and he failed, so Actinium's heart was aglow with joy at finally earning the attention of his newest crush, try as Kiel might to deny it.

Actinium was proving quite hard to take his eyes off of, once Kiel was actually looking at him and not just baring down at the same silvery cans he assembled day in and day out. "I, erm..." Kiel started, searching for the least complimentary words that he knew, "I hadn't noticed before, that you, ah... glowed...?"

"I glow when I'm happy," Actinium practically squealed his reply. Kiel continued to observe the Spiral quietly, as Actinium carefully pulled a cart of the Coatl's imperative, indispensable tin cans behind him. He was giving this small task his most rapt attention, avoiding even the smallest cracks and bumps in the road ahead of them so as to not disturb the cart's precious cargo. Kiel noted that he probably couldn't have looked after the cans better himself.

Kiel's gaze was drawn to Actinium's decidedly less-than-opaque talons holding the handle of the cart, and then to his strikingly vivid wings and tail, their appearance visibly flickering and wavering like some kind of projection. The Coatl's mounting curiosity finally got the better of him, and he couldn't help himself -- he had to ask.

"Actinium, what... what exactly are you?" The question finally escaped the Coatl's maw. Had the years of monotonous work on his tin cans finally begun to erode at his sanity, or was Kiel really communing with -- with a ghost? A spectre?

"Why, a soft, fuzzy man, of course!" Was the only reply he was granted.

Ainlif - Unnamed Clan
After an extended stay in a small unnamed clan in the windsingers domain and equipped with various new and improved canning equipment, Kiel finally decides to move on.

Kiln - Brass Union x/x/xxx > x/x/xxx

Kiel had never expected the silence to be disturbing. In between his shifts, he'd stop to take a sip of water, or stretch his legs. He had started to dislike these breaks, and found himself taking less and less.

It felt unnatural not to have another body at his side. He almost missed being frustrated at his unknowing accomplice for complacency. But he and Actinium had separated long since the Unnamed clan. The spiral seemed to finally accept his rebukes, and Kiel had never seen him since.

At least work kept him distracted. His personal supplies were running low, and he need refills, pronto. Least the silent bosses find out he'd been slacking. And besides, he supposed he was getting a little home-sick.

While most of his recipes were easy to muster. (The Silent bosses had given him a complicated recipe book long ago), there were occasional cans that required... ingredients of a more uncommon variety. This was just the right time of year to look for them, in the colonnades of dragonhome.

Indeed, while many could easily call his circus act a scam, or a parlour trick, the Silent bosses had reassured him that his canning was an art form.

He decided to prioritize
