THE PROPERTIES OF WI wrote:
INTRODUCTION:
I've begun to dabble in experimenting on a rare substance only dubbed "Worldbuilder Ink" by its supplier, Ivils. He's told me that this substance can only be created in the "home universe" that he frequently returns to. I am not quite sure of its properties; I will have to experiment with it myself and find the different uses it may have.
ENTRY NUMBER ██:
I've received a vial of the pure, concentrated form of WI. Using a dropper, I carefully added a small drop to a blank sheet of paper as Ivils had recommended. A pink shimmer similar to that of synthetic inks can be clearly observed, although there is no metallic scent to it. There's no discernible scent to it at all, in fact. I will keep watch over this droplet and keep these notes updated.
HOUR ONE: Nothing significant has occurred.
HOUR TWO: I may have observed slight movement, although my eye could be deceiving me.
HOUR SIX: I left the blob of ink unattended while I took care of more important matters. When I had returned, the blob was rolling around on the sheet of paper. It appears to have caught sight of me, despite not having visible eyes. It's stopped moving. I wonder what would happen if I approached it? I approach the ink blob. I'm directly in front of the desk the paper is resting on. The blob has formed itself fins. I've made various expressions at the blob, the blob mimicking every twitch of my fins. I've picked up the blob and put it back into the vial.
HOUR TEN: No movement has been reported from within the vial, contents should be reusable without any chance of contamination occurring and ruining the product.
This next experiment seems very, very interesting.
ENTRY NUMBER ██:
Victoria let me borrow a brush of hers to assist in my experiment yesterday. Using the same vial of WI from earlier, I've drawn a crude Fae on some canvas.Art is not my strong suit. I then left the canvas to dry and washed the WI off the brush. The next several hours are uneventful. The next morning, I returned to the room I left the canvas in. The canvas was empty with small, black prints trailing away from the canvas and fading away. I had forgotten to lock the door last night and had to find the drawing before it escaped into the Pagfenx. Thankfully, it didn't move too far. I found it in the break room, toying with my ciphered typewriter. It had no color to it and was roughly the same size as I had drawn it. It stared at me, perfectly mimicking the expression of fear. I grabbed it and took it back to the canvas room, where I killed it. Upon death, it had melted into a gelatinous form of WI, which was easier to put back into the vial than a small Fae.
Whatever I create with WI, I cannot get attached to. This will only make scientific progress harder to accomplish.
ENTRY NUMBER ██:
I added a drop of ink onto a glass slider and put it under a microscope. It showed what looked to be cells floating endlessly within, but they appeared to not be doing anything. I swiped the ink on the slider onto a piece of paper and looked at the paper underneath the microscope. The cells I saw earlier were beginning to rearrange and change in appearance. Muscle cells, bone cells, skin cells, cells of all kinds were forming right before me. I stared into the lenses with my jaw agape. I have never seen anything like this before! I need to figure out what is in the paper that is causing the cells to react this way.
I let the ink form a living being with the new, oblong shape it took from the smear. Keeping a careful eye on it, I surveyed it from a short distance away. It’s sat up and appears to be looking at me; fins are appearing once more. It’s attempting to mimic expressions at me again.IT RAISED ITS CHEEK FINS AT ME. Experimentation halted unexpectedly. Returned drawing to its vial. I’m postponing the next part of these experiments until next week. After that, no breaks.
ENTRY NUMBER ██:
I came into my lab this morning to find it completely covered in WI. Overnight, the vial I had kept stored managed to fall off the shelf. The ink inside took the form of a fae hatchling and ran about my lab, spreading uncured ink all over the place. I almost disposed of the ink. Almost. Seeing as the ink immediately took the form of a fae hatchling, I needed to run some tests and experiments on this mimic; see what makes it tick, why it took the form of a fae, if creatures created with WI are even sentient. It'll be easier if they are not. It's currently locked inside a separate room while I attempt to recreate the same scenario to see if just knocking over a vial will create anything. Ivils was generous enough to give me a second vial after I explained the scenario. When I asked about sentience, his answer was vague. He asked about what I was doing with this information, but I couldn't tell him. He wouldn't understand my reasoning, even if he tried.
