Biography
SARELA
The Royal Mage
The Royal Mage
Sarela watched the familiar blue magic dance across his claws, and felt the familiar tug in his gut as the sapphire intensified. “Oh, what do we have here? A little wintie?” A dragon approached, eyes gleaming with condescending amusement. “A-Ash! You’re only three moons older than me!” Sarela sputtered, the blue, silky enchantment disappearing with his shock. “Yes, that I may be, but who’s the adult here? You know you’re still in the pubescent stage of maturity. The ceremony that names you as a legal adult is three moons away.” “Ash! That’s mean!” Sarela felt his magic flare white-hot, beating in time with his hammering heart. “Aw, you’re trying to perform magic? Like this?” Ash conjured a black flame in his paw, and Sarela scoffed indignantly. Most dragons in the Winter Court knew how to perform magic, but Ash was exceptional at it. He had a slight natural aptitude for it. The Skydancer smirked in response, and turned the flame into a small tiger. “Elementary.” Sarela replied- What was he doing? Why was he provoking Ash further? “Sure! Go ahead and try!” Ash smiled enthusiastically. Sarela inclined his snout and watched as blue sparks formed in midair, before growing into an inferno. It flitted around the room, lighting all the torches, before turning into a lion. Ash seemed to be in shock when the lion consumed the tiger. The whole Winter Court had seen Sarela’s feats before, but never really at this scale. Now, here the adolescent was, performing things most of the Court could never even dream of. The flame extinguished just as quickly as it came. Ash backed out of the room. “Alright, wintie, I’ll leave you to it.” As he exited, Sarela exhaled heavily. He had no idea how he’d been able to make that lion; it had been purely instinct, not refined prowess like the other mages he knew had. A puff of blue smoke made its way past his jaws, and he gaped as it floated itself around the room. “I-no, don’t do that, come back here! Magic, come back- no!” Ash heard the clattering of jars and the crack of a vase breaking from outside the door. “He might be good at magic,” he grinned fondly, “but he’s the clumsiest dragon I know.” By tacotwix |
