Walking leisurely through the stacks, Luzith felt the tension ease from her lithe body. Some dragons found their peace in various hobbies, in ritualistic training exercises performed in the Coliseum, or in their families. Not Luzith. She felt most at ease within the hallowed walls of the Tourmaline Archives. Stopping to run a claw across the spines of several Tomes of Enchantment, Luzith felt the power flow slowly up her arm. The tingling sensation ebbed and flowed with various degrees of intensity as she moved from tome to tome until finally she felt it almost as powerfully as an electrical shock. Nodding to herself with a slight smile, she lifted the heavy book from the shelf and hugged it to her, feeling the hum of its power course through her body. This was it. Making her way back to her favorite reading nook, Luzith looked at all the other items in the Archives. It would take innumerable years to ingest the knowledge contained in the sacred texts. It helped immensely that her magic was quickened by the information she needed the most and there was no need to peruse the shelves to find what she was looking for. Equally helpful was her ability to absorb information quickly and easily due to her photographic memory. What took other dragons months to learn, Luzith could master in less than a day. There were times, though, that she wanted to relish in the learning - like today. There was no rush, no imminent disaster that she had to prepare for. Today, she would simply read. Settling down into a comfortable position, Luzith studied the cover of the tome before her. Swirling mists shifted, revealing a young dragon… no, a hatchling. They shifted again and she saw a menacing dragon-spirit, sharp, jagged teeth and talons reaching for a beautiful pearlcatcher who looked upon it with…. Love? Adoration? What in the world? Blinking to clear her vision, Luzith looked again and the mists had disappeared. Instead, she saw the title in bold script, “Tome of Endless Illusion”. Interesting. She did not know why the information contained in the book was of importance to her, but she would need it soon. And when she did, Luzith would be ready. Flipping open the large cover, she settled in for a leisurely day of learning.
