”Go,” her mentor had said, with such a tenderness the Spiral nearly wept from her many eyes. Beneath his hollow skull-mask, a tinge of grief betrayed Azrael’s reassurance, and Elakshi couldn’t find it within herself to fight him. Not with these new feelings of unease nipping at her heels and lungs. Her transition was never intended to be quite so sudden, no…but, she supposed, she never did know just when she’d be appointed the High Priestess.

Before she could voice her concerns, in a frail effort to relieve the heaviness that had just crashed down upon her, the Ridgeback spoke again.
