______ Gerhardt was drawing strength from having Crystallus Oculi near him. His tail lay across her shoulders as they looked at the dark lump of Skydancer curled up on the crystalline floor of the Hallowed Hall's main antechamber. Gerhardt could not deny the terror he was feeling in the presence of Mollis Somnus. He remembered clearly the day that they disturbed the Skydancer in the middle of his slumber. He was constantly reminded because he needed to guide Crystallus Oculi wherever she needed to go. His gaze shifted to look at her scarred face. The brutal claw marks around her eyes marred her once beautiful faceted eyes. Gerhardt shook his head. Never again.

Crystallus Oculi's soft voice whispered forth, "We're sorry. We were on our way to examine the fracture in the wall of the southern tunnels."

Gerhardt prayed to the Great Mother that this answer would placate the Skydancer.

"Be on your way then," grumbled Mollis Somnus.

Thank you Great Mother, thought Gerhardt. He led the way to the Southern Tunnels. They were so close! He could smell the salt of the sea in the stagnant air. However as they went deeper into the tunnels, the air was becoming fresher. Gerhardt felt a large smile tug at his lips when he saw the form of his father adding the last few touches to secure the escape route. Gerhardt nearly missed the exchange between his sister and his father since he was so overcome with excitement.

They were going to escape! They were going to feel the sun for the first time!

Then the dark voice of Noctis Timore dashed that hope to pieces. "...We wouldn't want that...So Niveus Crystallo...you still do not understand the great honor that your children were chosen for?"

Gerhardt's head whipped around and horror froze his blood. He stared at the grinning visage of Noctis Timore. He could see Mollis Somnus yawning over Noctis Timore's shoulder. No, no, thought Gerhardt, No!

Niveus Crystallo's strong voice broke Gerhardt out of his horror. "Raise your head Crystallus Oculi. You and your siblings are getting out of here."

Gerhardt knew now that time was of the essence. He turned away from the older adults and began to nudge Atasna toward the exit. He also coaxed Crystallus Oculi to move, even though that was harder because she was so focused on listening to the conversation.

Come on sister, Gerhardt mentally begged, please move!

Then Niveus Crystallo's bark stirred Gerhardt's blood into making haste. "Flee my children!"

Gerhardt launched into action. He couldn't get Crystallus Oculi to move fast enough. He leapt behind her and shoved her out of the opening that their father had made. He heard a gasp from her but felt relief when he saw her wings instinctively open to catch the roaring sea winds.

Gerhardt ran to the exit and moved to leap, however he heard a voice that he never wanted to hear again.

Mollis Somnus' voice echoed softly, "Sleeeep!"

Gerhardt whimpered when his wings locked and he stumbled out of the opening. He tumbled down the rough faces of the crystal structure. His consciousness was barely hanging on when he finally stopped falling. He couldn't move. Gerhardt thought he might've broken something in the fall. His head weakly shifted to look up when he heard movement. Dark shapes hovered above him.

"Well," sniffed the distorted voice of Noctis Timore in Gerhardt's ears, "That could've been timed better. Look at how battered he is now. His sisters have already fallen into the sea."

"Blame Niveus Crystallo," yawned Mollis Somnus.

"Tch," clicked Noctis Timore, "I do. Well, I may as well take this one's soul and then offer him up as tribute to the Tidelord, since the sea seems so eager to take these dragons."

Gerhardt's mind gave in to sleep, unable to resist the power of Mollis Somnus' spell. He couldn't imagine the horrible life he would lead once he woke up. His soul, his will would be gone. The only saving grace was that he would be free of the Hallowed Hall once the ocean currents swept him away. It was also fortunate that he was not a fighter, even without his soul he would know how to be kind.

Gerhardt woke- something be was not entirely sure was going to happen, he must admit.

He woke to the doing of rushing water in his ears, the taste of salt in his mouth and flooding into his lungs as he inhaled a sputtering gasping of breath.
