The sight of a shining blue oasis settled in a patch of gleaming white sand in the abiding boneyard is a lie. Everyone knows it must be a lie, nothing so clean and pure could exist in that awful waste. But after days or weeks of surviving on cactus juice or the dribbles left in a water skin, eventually something gives in and a desperate being staggers forward to drink from the pristine waters.
It's the last thing they do.
The Ones Who Lurk Beneath have found their own way to survive in the brutal wasteland of the abiding boneyard. Scales that ripple with the patterns of water on sand, subtle magics that redirect the poisons of this one small patch of land to concentrate them beneath the surface. The only hint of their presence is occasional flash of red eyes and ripples on the surface that sometimes move against the wind.
