Claxton is to Smoke something along the lines of what Istar is to Tangle, a favorite, almost a son but not quite. Someone to be relied upon, but also one to never trust fully - for a strong ally may one day become a usurper.

Claxton hails from the Mirror pack Smoke and his father ran with in the Plaguelands. He searched Smoke down following the breakup of that pack, for he held the then-Tundra in high esteem for his deeds. Smoke was surprised but pleased, and in his own odd way happy to have him along. Tangle slavered for his rare gene combinations and is content to leave the two of them to their little relationship. While Tangle's decrees mean Claxton is in high demand as a Clan stud, he chose Absaia as his official mate and companion.

When not drilling his ever-growing gaggle of children in the finer points of combat, Claxton and his familiar Death Seeker, whom he calls One-Eye, like to play hunting games, chasing prey and monsters through the Tangled Woods each dependent only on the other's sight and instructions. They are a strong pair, and idolize the symbiosis present between Smoke and his Kamaitachi.
