Graceful and elegant Ysaly is also humble, in a remarkably sincere way. She isn’t at all self-depreciating, she simply believes that none of her traits make her in any way superior to any other Dragon. After all what skills and talents she possesses are balanced out by areas where she doesn’t excel. And of course Dragons who don’t possess the same set of skills are often far superior in other areas, possessing talents that she herself could not imagine. In her mind all things balance and keeping that balance in mind is very important. For example she adores how intelligent her mate Eldamar is, knowing that his remarkable insight and patience with the smallest workings of magic are something that she could never manage on her own, no matter how hard she were to try. It is simply something that remains beyond her, though she finds endless pleasure in watching him work, marveling at how absorbed he becomes, tuning out everything around him as he focuses on arcane energies and binding the physical and metaphysical into a whole more glorious and complex than the separate halves could possibly account for. When he’s experimenting Eldamar will dictate notes to her, which she transcribes verbatim, adding details of her own so that when he reviews them later he will be exactly able to replicate every process he completed, every experiment he carried out. That way, in the future, he will be able to further refine his methods. It’s an assistance that Eldamar appreciates more than he is able to express in words, and instead pours it into his work, fully aware of how much his mate enjoys watching and taking notes. To others it would seem a strange way to express love, but to the pair there’s no deeper way of sharing the bond they possess.

It’s fortunate that she possesses a fondness for writing and recording all details, no matter how small and unimportant they may seem, for she has been entrusted with keeping and recording the history of the clan and there’s no telling what might prove to be vital information in the future. She possesses notes and scrolls dating back to the very beginnings of the clan, writings that were passed down to her when the previous keeper of history departed to serve the deities. It is a task that she takes very seriously, for to some degree she takes all things seriously. It is her nature, though she’s not without her playful side, even if it’s not immediately apparent. The easiest way to see this side of her is to look to her Familiar, a Spellbound Tome that only ever opens for her. What secrets lay written on its pages are a mystery that only she knows. If pressed for details she simply smiles, and hums gently as she peers at the inquirer, giving them a look over her glasses that is neither knowing nor judgmental. Often times the Tome itself is open in front of her, arranging its multitude of wings so that its pages are hidden from all save her. If one pays careful attention and knows her well enough it’s possible to detect a small, playful glint in her eyes at these moments, though it’s so subtle that it’s difficult to tell if it’s real or imagined. During those times it seems that she and her Familiar are sharing some secret joke made just for the two of them. Or at least that’s what Lasgalen, her mate’s brother, often claims, backing up his theory with the insistence that, if there’s anyone who would recognize a joke, even the most subtle one imaginable, it would be him.

Though Eldamar is her mate now this wasn’t always the case. Originally she was paired with his younger brother, Eriador, but eventually Eri, as she remains fond of calling him, left to serve the deities, and she found herself alone. Eldamar was in the exact same situation at the time and this created a certain understanding between the two of them. Eventually she realized that she was falling in love with Eldamar, something that she found worrying until she received a letter from Eri, letting her that above all things he wanted her to be happy and that he felt that her being with Eldamar was the most right and proper thing because of how happy it would make her. At the same time Eldamar received a similar message from his previous mate, Avallone. Since then the two have been together and happy in their doubly blessed relationship.

When she nests she does so with Galanta and Anduin, for company makes all things more enjoyable, even tasks that are already delightful on their own. Needless to say she leaves the decorating up to them. Seeing what the pair comes up with together is always a pleasure. Of course she contributes in her own way, seeing to it that the eggs have soothing music played to them and always reading at least one book to them so that they may develop a love of learning while still in the shell. Her methods seem to work too, for the hatchlings she has with Eldamar always grow up to be the most intelligent Dragons in the clans they choose to join, accomplishing many great things. This of course makes her incredibly proud, though she is never boastful about it, citing Eldamar as being an exceptional father and giving credit to Galanta and Anduin for the wonderful, safe and enriching nests that they make. After all, with such a team working together is there any room to wonder why their children are destined for greatness?
