Maryam is as large and imposing as the average Gaoler is, but he is in all honesty a gentle giant. He is always aware of his surroundings, and has a surprising love and tenderness toward eggs and hatchlings alike. It's this love and tenderness, and surprising ferocity, he shows toward the young and anything that threatens them alike, that earned him the duty of caring for and guarding the clan's nesting grounds and all that make use of and reside in it.

He first came into the clan as a traveler. Looking for a purpose in life or just taking in the sights, no one was sure, as he was a dragon of few words. He was polite and smiled and nodded, being a perfectly pleasant guest to the clan. As he was being given a tour though, he saw the nesting grounds, full of eggs and expecting parents. He couldn't help but stare. While most expecting parents would feel uneasy over a large stranger eyeing their yet to be born young, they could see in his eyes, it was filled with nothing but a love filled awe. He was allowed to see nature eggs for the first time, silently admire the small earthen shell filled with life. He spoke for the first time as he admired them; "...they're beautiful."

Each step he took was gentle and careful, not even his tail accidentally brushed a single egg. It was clear he cared deeply for the young, even if they weren't his own. This warmth quickly had Eden enamored with him. Yet, they didn't want to force him to stay. So they did their best to make his night with the clan comfortable before he had to head on in the morning.

But sometimes fate has a funny way of showing it's self

The night, Eden was targeted by some egg thieves. Dragons eager to earn a quick coin, and almost nothing gets as much as a 'lost and parent-less' egg does. There was a commotion. Turns out a parent decided to stay the night in the nesting grounds, and awoke to a dragon trying to silently snag a egg from their nest. They fought them, but they were just one and the thieves out numbered them. The noise alerted the guard, but they were hesitant to fight the thieves around all the eggs. But one dragon didn't hesitate.

Maryam moved so fast, many didn't realize it was him till his roar ripped through the whole clan. He lunged in, baring his fangs at the offending dragon holding the pilfered egg. The dragon was so shocked, they tossed it out of reflex. All the dragons watched in shock and horror and Maryam caught it in his mouth, and then proceed to thrash every thief there. They were chased out of the nesting ground, and right into the waiting claws of the guard.

Once they were taken care of, all the eggs were carefully checked. They were afraid. Such a big dragon? Fighting in a place with so many others with such delicate cargo? But to their surprise, not one had a single scratch. Not even the one in Maryam's mouth, which he happily and gently placed back into it's nest, with their tearfully thankful parent.

The clan was astonished that he had managed to fight of a group of dragons, in a nesting ground, with an egg in his mouth, and still made sure none of them got hurt. So that night, he was offered a job and a home. And he happily accepted

This gentle giant has happily lived in Eden since. And he very much loves his life
