For a long time, Mystic lived among his Goaler breathren beneath the surface. In hidden caves, he helped cage the darkest of creatures so as to make sure they never again roamed the earth. When he came of age, he joined the Sentry Order. His powerful cave-based magicks gave him an edge in performing his duty well, which was why he choose the Sentry Order out of all of them. Then, the day came when strange dragons from the surface wandered down into the caves and the leaders decided it was time to return to roam the lands of Sornieth once more.

Onto the surface the Goalers emerged and hundreds scattered to the winds, spreading far and wide throughout Sornieth. Mystic, though, was unwilling to wander far. Instead, he traveled across the Southern Icefield until he found a strange area near the base of a towering mountain. Atune to the aura of magick, he was not easily turned away by the mist barrier and pushed onward past it.

Emerging past the thick wall of mist, he stumbled out into a changed landscape. Off in the distance, standing in the sheltered shadow of the mountain, a encampment of dragons had appeared where before it was a deserted plane. In shock, he stood frozen for a moment. Magick users among the Goalers were rare if not nearly nonexistent. To think that there were dragons roaming Sornieth with this kind of powerful magick was something shocking. Of course he went onward to find the dragons responsible for the barrier. He assumed it was multiple dragons as he couldn't believe a single dragon had so much raw power.

Slinking low to the ground, he carefully approached the lair, hoping to remain unseen as long as possible as he wasn't sure how these dragons might react. However, this plan ended as a result of a pair of strangely bright colored dragons.

"Aden!" a small blue dragon growled. "I'm going to kill you!"

"You'll have to catch me first!" a similar but red dragon called out, running away from the other.

This red dragon, not paying attention to where he were going, ran straight into Mystic.

"Ah, sorry about--" The dragon broke off his apology as he looked up at Mystic, eyes going wide with fear. Body lowered to the ground, he began to back away.

"Aden?" The blue one caught up to them. "What's--" Upon seeing Mystic as well, the blue one froze for a minute then began to yell for help. "Help! Stranger!"

In an instant, dragons everywhere all turned to face them. Mystic sighed. There went his plan. Trying his best to adopt a non-threatening posture, he didn't dare to move, eyes scanning the group.

"What is going on here?" a voice roared over the crowd. "Aden, Lien, I swear if this is another false alarm!" She didn't bother to finish. The crowd parted to reveal a breathtakingly powerful female dragon with four other equally powerful dragons on her heels. Her pale eyes landed on Mystic. "Who are you and why are you trespassing on our territory?"

Recognizing the color of her eyes, he bowed his head. "Icewarden blessed, I apologize for trespassing. My name is Mystic. Recently, I have left my home and have decided to wander the Southern Icefield. I couldn't help but admire the barrier at the edge of your territory and the amount of magick it must take to maintain it. May I speek with the ones responsible for it?"

She narrowed her eyes, all four Mystic noted, and approached him, leaving behind the other four dragons. Pausing next to the two cowering dragons, she nudged them back towards the group. "Lien, Aden, thank you for the alert." The two nodded and scampered away, vanishing between other dragons. She turned her attention back onto Mystic, her eyes roaming and studying him. "What type of dragon are you? I've never met another that looked like you."

Underneath her gaze, he felt exposed and vulnerable, a feeling he had never experienced before. "We are called the Gaolers, creations of the Icewarden himself. We've been around since the beginning of time."

"Never heard of you," she replied casually. "Anyway, it's not something I'm concerned with right now. Why do you assume multiple dragons created our barrier?"

He couldn't help but laught, a deep rumbling sound. "There is no single dragon with enough magick for that! Magick alone is a rare enough gift in any amount. A gift that powerful is practically impossible."

A bemused smile appeared on her face as she spoke. "Are you sure you come from Sornieth? Magick, though not common, is far from rare. In fact, all Arcane dragons have even the tiniest inclination towards magick and there are plenty of them."

Blinking, he regarded her with disbelief. "How can that be? When Gaolers still roamed the surface and even now, few if any have any sort of magick."

"Perhaps you've been away from the surface for too long."

"Perhaps we have."

"Well, as you have elected to share much with us, I shall share some with you," she said with a flick of her tail. "We are Storm clan and I am Iceflame, the leader of the clan. I am willing to let you stay and speak with Terhenetar, the dragon who upholds the barrier, if she accepts and if you agree to speak with Nightcrystal and provide her with information about you Gaolers."

Once again, he bowed his head. "I'll accept this agreement. Thank you, Iceflame, blessed of the Icewarden."

Thus, Mystic spoke with Terhenetar and Nightcrystal, exchanging information and lifestories. As he stayed there, he also spoke with other members of Storm clan and soon assimilated into clan life. After a time, Iceflame extended a permanent invitation to join the clan and Mystic gladly accepted.
