The story of Faridah, of which I will be recording in this very book, was told through the mouth of a sprite to me during a moment when I had stopped to fish. The legend goes, and begins, in a kingdom of many exquisite beauties flourishing in the Starwood Strand of the Starfall Isles. This kingdom had been at its peak in this time, but it had come to the time of year where it was due a new queen. Several heirs had been chosen by the subjects, and that is where our wealthy maiden Faridah comes into the picture. Our Faridah had not a drop of royal blood in her body, and yet the subjects wanted her. Her eyes had sparkled with potential, as did the breathtaking strands of pearls that had been strung across her scales. Faridah quickly surpassed the other heirs with her sparkling, fae-esque charm, and it wasn’t long until our maiden had won her way to the throne.

Faridah, as the story goes, was a dragon who had been far too occupied with herself to properly uphold a kingdom. Now, I am being reassured that this dragoness was never mean in her nature—merely, she was one who fit the criteria of “air-headed” quite well, and it had been often said of this heir that her priorities were...skewed, if that could be said of them. Friendly, but greedy and unwittingly selfish, and undeniably obsessed with herself. The kingdom and its territories had been decorated even more brilliantly under the reign of Faridah than they were before, with even a statue erected in her honor, but the same greatness could not be said about life itself in the kingdom.

On one particularly glorious day, Faridah had caught word from scholars of a grove of colorful serenity secluded in the Tsunami Flats of the Sea of a Thousand Currents—with an even greater beauty hiding in its heart. Faridah abandoned her kingdom almost immediately in pursuit of this beauty, and that was the last that had ever been heard of her. The sprite proceeded to explain to me that Faridah had reached this greater beauty, of what I now know to be the fountain, and encountered the goddess that had slept inside it. Their relationship at first, was described to be polite and pleasant, with the goddess allowing Faridah to reside in her gorgeous grove in exchange for a chest of treasure—of which Faridah had many of.

But Faridah had quickly overstayed her welcome. The sprite says, Faridah had stolen many of the goddess’s pearls under her nose—one even from the nest of this sprite herself. The goddess, although angered, was willing to forgive Faridah. Following that forgiveness was a problematic string of events that implied Faridah had gotten much too comfortable in the grove, from trampled flowers to fruits plucked from trees long before they were supposed to be. The goddess had been angered a second time, but yet, her patience had shined through, and she was still willing to forgive Faridah.

But it seemed the straw that broke the camel’s back was when Faridah had begun coming to the goddess and indirectly asking for her for her blessings. Time and time again, the sprite said the naturally chatty Faridah had come with merely just small talk in mind, only to sheepishly duck her head and say she wished she had a new necklace of pearls, you know, or a new jewel, perhaps even a magical serum to make her scales shine more than they already had. This was when the goddess’ patience had finally worn. The sprite said Faridah had been exiled just like that—a single lightning bolt struck the dragoness where she stood, stopping her mid-sentence, and whisked her away, pearls and all. And if you blinked, you would have missed it.

The sprite wished me a good night after telling Faridah’s tale, and swam away. I can’t recall if she left me with the same amount of coins I had before, or otherwise.

(old)
  • oooh what'd this lady do. Let's see
  • First of all she loves pearls, and she's not necessarily mean. She just. She just loves herself a bit much, always wants to look pretty
  • She constantly went to the flower lady for things, and was like SUBTLY trying to get stuff from her
  • Basically. She asked for way too much stuff!! Or, well, indirectly let's say, because you know when kids say "i wish i had ____.." with a pout on their face in hopes that they'll get what they want? Yeah. That's Faridah
  • Like i said, she's not necessarily mean. She's just airheaded, talkative, and faaaar too obsessed with herself for her own good tbh. Like her priorities are WACK
