Biography
![](/rendern/portraits/511489/51148824p.png)
Pewter was always a bit of an outcast. He knew he was male, but everyone always him "she".
If only he could get a beard to grow. That would show them.
Pewter was all too happy to leave when it was time for him to find his charge. A handful of others gathered to see him off. His parents, a few siblings, a couple of dragons he loosely called "friend". They all loved him, but refused to fully understand.
"Maybe you'll find what you're looking for out there," his mother had said.
He thought about it often. He wandered the frozen lands of his home for years, searching. What was it he was supposed to be trying to find? How would he know if it was the right thing when he found it? There were times when he would find a village that needed help, or meet up with a traveling group. A couple of times, he thought he'd found his charge. But sadly, every stop eventually dried up its prospects. Worse yet, he had still not found a single soul that would take him seriously. He felt lost, and terribly alone.
One day, he happened upon a cavern that was almost covered in snow. Not thinking much of it, he shrugged and started to move on. But he felt a tug in his stomach. He stopped and looked back at the cave. What was that? He shook his head and tried to move on again, but that same tugging feeling came. It was just a cave. What could possibly be so special about it? He had learned some time ago not to ignore feelings like that. So he went to check it out.
He had to clear some snow away to fit inside, but it didn't take long. He traveled a short distance down and a bit to the right when suddenly the cave started opening up. There was so much space! And the further down you went in, the bigger it became! It was also a lot warmer in here than outside. Pewter returned to the entrance to have a look around. There was a forest in the distance; one that looked like it may be a good place to hunt. Around the back of the cave was a beach that stretched on for a ways and melted into the sea. Wonderful! This place would be a great location for a den! But... where would he find dragons to fill it. Disgruntled and tired, he went inside and laid down to sleep.
When he came to in the morning, he noticed a fae dragon sitting in front of him, looking at him quizzically.
"Oh!" Pewter gasped, sitting up. "Is this your cave?"
"No!" the little fae squeaked. "But I saw it while flying around, and decided to check it out. It looks so empty! How long have you lived here?"
"I... don't live here. I only found this cave last night."
"Well then, do you mind if I stay with you?"
Pewter was taken aback. "Sure!"
Pewter and the fae, whose name was Sprite, bonded as they cleaned up and cleared out the lair. They gathered resources, and started setting up for more dragons. Pewter, for once not feeling the urge to wander, began to believe that maybe, finally, his search was over.
Eventually, he was comfortable enough to reveal his secret. Sprite stared at him with wide eyes.
"Wow, I totally understand!" she said.
"You do?" Pewter asked, blinking in surprise.
"Yeah! And, I think I can fix it."
Before he could ask how, Sprite put her snout to his, and he was enveloped in a warm sensation that covered his entire body. When it dissipated, he opened his eyes.
"There we go!" Sprite chirped.
"What did you do?" Pewter asked, and gasped. His voice was deeper!
Sprite ran off and grabbed a stone that was polished to a very nice shine. Pewter gazed into the stone and saw the beginnings of a beard growing from his chin. He wept tears of joy, finally feeling like himself.
They had their first clutch several months later. And as Pewter stared into the eyes of his new hatchlings, he knew, at last, he was where he belonged.
