An oddity among her breed, Sisarqua loves water. She is the clan's best fisher, and spends most of her time soaring above the Sea of a Thousand Currents, admiring its dazzling waves in the sun and its raging power in the storm. She likes to roll around in the sun-baked beach sand to polish her scales. She goes through various phases of style: soft pink silks, lagoon starsilks, fin jewels, and even a pirate phase every once in a while (from which she knows an absurd amount of knots). Sisarqua is bisexual.

LIFE HISTORY

Birth and Childhood Sisarqua was born to a clan of fanatical water dragons. She was born "closed," which was this group's term for a water-element dragon whose gills have not been activated. To open her gills, she was secured to an anchor and thrown into deep water with the intent of forcing her gills to activate and make her a "true" water dragon. This method historically had a 10% success rate, but the zealots in her clan believed it was better to be dead than disabled. She was rescued from her fate by a school of maren who took her under their wing (or fin, so to speak). They raised her, loved her, and trained her to thrive without functioning gills. |
Eventually Sisarqua grew to be too large for her maren family and decided to strike out on her own (wait, kind of like Spyro from the Legend Trilogy?). She definitely had character-building adventures and encounters with scary deep sea creatures before coming to settle in the Altarian Clan. She and her adoptive family both came to understand that while there is real love between them, Sisarqua truly belongs with other dragons.

Original post-midnight note for her story "An idea for Sisarqua’s story: what if in some individuals, perhaps depending on the species, they don’t develop gills unless they are forced to? Like they are weighed down and thrown off into deep water to force their gills to break open? But maybe sometimes this drowns the individual. Because it can only be achieved if they are truly drowning and their body is that desperate for oxygen. Oh and maybe Eleanor saved Sisarqua somehow, and that’s why they’re besties. And maybe Sisarqua developed gills eventually in her own time, or maybe she never did and just learned to live without them. Some theme of ableism here"
