______ One moment is all it takes. A single breath, one missed opportunity, that is all it takes. The Nameless One lost everything in a single heartbeat. Her charge, her life, lost in the searing fire that she was a second too late to prevent. Her name, Aurexia, and her charge, burned to ashes before tears could even well in her eyes. All that was left was an empty shell. Only The Nameless One remained.

______ Once, Aurexia was happy. When her charge first hatched, her heart soared and she knew: this was her life. This was her charge. She helped raise her charge, and every time she looked upon her dearest, she fell a little more in love. Aurexia was complete with her charge beside her, helping her charge grow and develop. She was practically another parent to her charge. Her charge adored her too, and they lived in happiness together.

______ Her charge grew restless with age. Together, they wandered from clan to clan, flight to flight. They never placed roots, but Aurexia found that her charge adored wandering in nature. They would spend months in the woods, simply enjoying life. But, it was the woods that was their downfall. Aurexia had left her charge to sleep while she gathered food, but when she returned, all she could see was fire. She plunged in, trying to find her charge, but when she did she was a heartbeat too late. She had failed. In that moment, her heart broke, and she lost her reason, will, and purpose in life. In that moment, she was no longer Aurexia, but The Nameless One.

______ She did not die. She wreathed herself in in flames and smoke to remind her of her failures, and continued to wander. She did not concern herself with pain, nor with hunger. She ate only when it was convenient and easy. She threw herself into conflicts and became a protector of the weak. None of that could fill the void in her heart where her charge had resided, however. Every day became a struggle to repent for the loss of her charge. None of it would ever make her even, in her eyes, but it was the least she could do to amend her crime.

______ She finally chose to reside in a stable clan in the flight where she was born: light. There she found something that began to change her bleak outlook on life. It was an imperial called Coryna, a kind lady with similar coloring to her own. She taught The Nameless One a simple task: folding origami. Coryna regaled her with the legends surrounding origami and, while The Nameless One held no passion for it, they continued to fold origami together. The Nameless One found herself growing fond of this imperial and her tales of paper cranes. This, she thought, must be what love without a charge feels like.

______ The Nameless One began her new life there. She was not Aurexia. She never would be again. But she learned that she did not have to be the same in order to live her life. Coryna gave her a light, and The Nameless One was born out of the fire and ash that had slain Aurexia. Now she wears her fire and smoke an a reminder to never forget, but to accept and move on, and to live her life in the best possible way she can.
