His world fell apart when he was still just a hatchling, and overnight his parents and most of his clan were wiped out by an emperor. He and his sister each grieved in their own ways - while Yoldu sought to take revenge, Yale just wanted to heal and learn to live with what happened. He wanted to help his sister too, only she wouldn’t have it and any conversation of helping her heal would end with hurt feelings on both sides.

Over time, the arguments between him and his sister grew more frequent, until Yale began to dread spending time with her. Revenge was the only thing she talked about anymore, even though she couldn’t tell him how in Icewarden’s name she planned to survive that encounter. Until one day, she sought the help of the Shade, of all things. Pledging loyalty to it, forsaking her deity - Yale couldn’t believe what she’d done.

Packing his things and leaving with only a few words of goodbye, he moved to the Fortress of Ends, determined to never look back. And he didn’t, at least not until he received a letter from his home:

“The Emperor is taken care of. You can call off your search for it.

Hope you’re doing well,

Yoldu”

They started writing each other after that. It was just smalltalk at first, but over time, they re-built their relationship. They still weren’t as close as they’d been as hatchlings, but at least they were family again and they had each other.
