Bertilak is a temperamental, passionate dragon that can pack a lot of punch, verbally and magically -- and physically, too, with the help of his staff; he's been known to give larger dragons quite the smack on the head. He is known for having a fearsome, and oftentimes destructive, temper, and his clanmates joke (much to his annoyance) that the gods knew better than to put him in a larger body. Although he isn't exactly arrogant, Bertilak appears to have no shortage of confidence, and he is generally a blustering, cheerful fellow. Tact and finesse have no place in his skillset and he has no qualms about voicing his opinions or butting heads with dragons dangerously bigger than himself. Consequences or the unknown are not his concern. In particular, he constantly shoehorns himself into Hecuba's business, as he is still quite outraged that she had the audacity to return from the Flamecaller to retake the place as clan leader from him (the fight was an incredible spectacle, but the Nature mage simply couldn't compete with Hecuba's fiery claws).

In spite of his violent personality, Bertilak's hobbies are relatively peaceful. He is proudly loyal to his homeland, the Viridian Labyrinth, and frequently leads pilgrimages there with other Nature dragons, such as Skellington and, while she was still with the clan, Thumbelina; occasionally he'll also bring along his pleasant but easily-distracted paramour, Galahad. He typically brings back trees from such pilgrimages to plant in the fertile soil of the Ashfall Waste, to grow and provide a more sustainable diet for the vegetarians in his clan. Although the ground is good, the weather in the Waste tends to be too harsh for most sorts of vegetation to grow, so the other gardeners in the clan (Jeronimo, Myanmar, Sprout, Saoirse, and Shigeru) shelter the trees inside caves and care for them as best they can, as a little remembrance to home.
