______ Abandoned, forgotten, born from the stars, or a tragic death, Itachi never knew why he was left alone as a hatchling. There was only him in the Starwood Strand when he first hatched. Born alone, he discovered quickly the cruelty of the world and that handouts in life are never free. That was the single most important lesson he learned as a young dragon. Others were not willing to give him anything, even if it were just a scrap of food. That’s when he developed his affinity for thieving, or, as he called it, redistributing. But, with his redistribution he could not stay stationary for too long. The more that went missing the more likely it was that he would be noticed. So, he learned to travel. He remained inconspicuous so the dragons would never suspect him of pilfering from their hoards.

______ Eventually, his travels led him to The Tangled Wood where he attempted to steal from a group of nomads. While they weren’t excessively wealthy, he figured they would be easy targets as they frequently saw new faces and wouldn’t notice something missing for at least a little while. Either by sheer bad or good luck, Itachi did not go unnoticed. A young she-dragon caught him rooting around in their mobile stores and confronted him. When brought before the clan leader, Itachi claimed he was a merchant and even attempted to sell the dragon his own goods. The leader found this so entertaining that he decided to employ Itachi rather than punish him. He offered the wayward dragon a home, job, companionship, and a full belly in exchange for being their merchant. Itachi recognized a perfect opportunity and consented, joining the clan’s nomadic ranks.

______ Old habits linger, though and the Fae dragon was not about to give up his thieving. Being nomadic, it was easy for him to steal items and hoard them. As soon as they were far enough away he would add them to his regular wares. Of course, not everything he sold was stolen. Some of his items were created by other dragons in the clan. Their nomadic life made it easy to create a wide variety of items to hawk. Some of Itachi’s favourite items to sell are fabrics created by his mate, Verinosa. These are usually the first to go, as he will advertise them the most.

______ Itachi doesn’t spend his entire time procuring and selling goods. When not busy with work, he is usually stirring up some trouble in the clan or plotting new schemes to create trouble. He is mischievous and thrives on a little disorder. He has gotten to know the clan well enough to know who not to bug. The merchant has become a friendly face to everyone in the clan. Outside his schemes, he is happy to sit and talk with another clan mate for hours.

______ Most of the clan is unaware that Itachi still pulls a neat profit from stolen goods. Even if they suspect something, they are reluctant to approach him. His business brings in the most treasure for the clan and they worry that if he stops they will struggle to maintain their current lifestyle. One who knows and keeps his secret is his mate. Verinosa was the one who caught him trying to make off with their goods. She, like others, is willing to turn a blind eye to where some of their merchandise is procured from, so long as Itachi doesn’t get caught. As soon as he is compromised, she is more than willing to throw him to the wolves.

______ Itachi isn’t worried who finds out about his side source of income. When it comes to dealing with other dragons he is quite charming and usually more than capable of talking himself out of a mess. He is far from dull-witted and therefore able to adapt to various unusual situations as they develop. This makes him a skilled merchant and an effective ~~thief~~… acquirer.
