Hidden ruby

A large ruby found in the aftermath of a volcanic explosion became the centerpiece of an ancient clan. Although playing in the ash surrounding the dormant mountain was forbidden, some hatchlings still found the swirling patterns mesmerizing. However, as warned, the ash made their skin crack and bleed red. But as it healed a Hidden Ruby beneath their skin was revealed, shining brilliantly. Now 'the ashing' is a ceremony undertaken by that clan, who religiously guard their territory and the ash that resides within it.
