Amaranth
Trainee of the great Goliath

Right below the waters, he spotted a massive crystal cluster, shining brighter than anything he'd ever seen before. Deciding to investigate, he swam closer and examined the crystals. Even the smallest ones were bigger than himself and every last one of them were more reflective than any mirror. Filled with awe, he ran his claws gently along the cold formations.
"Who's there?" groans a deep voice as the ground beneath starts moving.
"Um... uh..." stammers Amaranth quietly.
The ground moves away and makes room for.... is that an eye? No, it can't be... surely?
"Oh, aren't you a sweet little one," says the voice calmly, "what's your name, coatl?"
"I'm uh... I'm Amaranth."
"Amaranth," the voice repeats, "a lovely name for a lovely boy."
Is... is the ground looking at him now?
"Oh, how rude of me, I completely forgot to introduce myself!" the voice exclaims with a hearty laugh, "I'm Aaro, the Goliath and leader of these pools."
Amaranth is completely frozen in awe... that's not ground, it's a massive turtle! He couldn't believe his eyes. Never had he seen a creature like this.
"Say, you seem promising," Aaro says, "how do you like magic?"
"I-I've seen, um, my mommy's friend use it and-"
Aaro quickly interrupts, "no, no, young one, would you be interested in learning? Of course you'd be but my apprentice and it's tough work, but quite rewarding if I say so myself!"
"M-me?" Amaranth stammers, "b-but I'm not magical!"
"Nonsense! Everyone has a little piece of magic inside them, but only the pure hearted ones know how to channel it - unless they're taught, of course."
"I-you... you'll teach me?" Amaranth gasps. He's always wanted to learn magic!
Aaro chuckles, "you live up the waters there?" He nods gently towards the pools up the hills. Amaranth nods.
"Let me follow you home then, apprentice."
