Biography

Progenitor of the Chthonic bloodline.

Matriarch and founding member of the clan. When it was still quite small, she was the undisputed ruler. She still has an elevated status, but repeated requests by her ever-expanding clan mean that she is in the process of transferring at least some of that authority to a small clan- elected council. She will, of course, retain ultimate veto power, but frankly there are so many things to oversee these days that this change will be something of a relief.

Loves fighting and particularly enjoys winning. Hatchlings are always eager to wrestle with her but become significantly less eager when they realize that she doesn't go easy on anyone. (That being said, she values the wellbeing of her clan above all else- so the young ones aren't hurt, they're just very thoroughly pinned.)

Charon grew up feeling ostracized because she never felt a real call to The Search. She went about her life somewhat aimlessly, building a lair and inadvertently finding a mate. Her and Styx's first clutch arrived soon into their partnership. It was the night after the younglings had hatched, watching her family play together, that she had a sudden realization. Maybe a charge to protect wasn't something that had to be found at the end of an arduous quest- maybe it was something she could just choose. It was at that moment that she committed herself fiercely to the guardianship of her clan and everyone in it. Even as her lair's residents have grown beyond blood relations, she has harnessed her species' possessive streak to devote herself to the wellbeing of the group. This plays out like a (slightly) more altruistic version of the sentiment "don't touch that, it's MINE!" So far, it's working quite well.

While Charon would ultimately prefer to have her brood under her watchful eye at all times, she understands the need for some of her offspring to join new families or serve the gods. These descendants keep up a regular correspondence with her, and in return she trusts them to look after themselves and restrains herself from surprise visits "just to check in".

Exalting Charon to the service of the Windsinger will remove them from your lair forever. They will leave behind a small sum of riches that they have accumulated. This action is irreversible.
