RUSSELL
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
|
Born in Nature, Russell spent most of his life before coming to Home in Fire territory. Of course, it's not very useful to be a Nature dragon hanging around Fire forges and smelting shops, but Russell has always been a wonderfully good pretender. He learned how to work the forges early, and he made money on the streets through his fire-breathing tricks. Even actual Fire dragons can't breathe fire; Russell does so with some chemicals, some magic, lots of practice, and lots of luck. Though he's a quiet and introverted dragon, he is a natural showman. Russell is able to move with fire better than most Fire dragons, and his dramatic performances earned him the nickname Fire-Dancer in his hometown (which he thinks is silly). Reserved and inclined to be moody and sullen, Russell isn't a very talkative fellow. His knee-jerk reaction in nearly every situation is self-preservation, even at the risk of anything else, though he'll admit that loyalty to Home came on faster than he'd expected. He's well-known for his strong sense of justice, which is why he came to Home - he wants to make sure no other orphans have a childhood like he did. His upbringing in Fire makes him very useful for helping Home's mechanically-minded hatchlings get an introduction to engineering and smithing, and he likes being able to finally feel good at it without being dismissed outright because he doesn't have Fire eyes. Still not the friendliest fellow, Russell feels surprised to have a family at Home, even though he spends most of his time with his best friend, Home's chief engineer Valery. Russell can never be seen without his pet Stoat, a foul-tempered and snappish creature, which is always either riding on his shoulders or in his pockets. Despite his pet's tendency to bite, he thinks that its soft and cute appearance is a great icebreaker.
If you are a dreamer, come in, if you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar, a hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer...If you're a pretender come sit by my fire, for we have some flax-golden tales to spin.
Behind the Name...
Russell is derived from the Old Norse 'rossel,' meaning "red-haired."
