A child and her sister tragically died of illness one cold winter, and in despair, their father buried them in their favorite fir grove. Their mother left in the night long ago, and with his siblings and parents dead, he was now alone.

One day, resting in his worn, creaky home in his poor, remote village, he heard a knock on the door and opened it to reveal a well-dressed imperial, hailing from the Sunbeam Ruins. It seemed he had visited the other houses as well, with little luck. The imperial asked a few questions, leading up to if the father had any lost loved ones he wished to be with again. The father laughed and said yes, but this hope was impossible. The imperial suggested otherwise, made an offer - one the father could not refuse. So the two went to the fir grove along a thin path worn by grief, and visited two lone graves.

The imperial had no such good in his heart, however, and whisked the daughters away into his laboratory; father trailing behind in the halls. He may be of use later. Unbeknownst to him, the wicked imperial's experiments in necromancy had born a monstrosity. The younger sister was inert, head and limbs falling dead to the side. The older sister wailed and wailed without end at their state, of her sister's second demise, and of her own defilement at the claws of this arrogant madman. The father had heard, so he snuck by to find the two that had mattered most in his life to be in such a twisted state. He let out a cry that alerted the imperial to his discovery, and was killed as he lay on the ground with his daughters clutched in his arms.

They eventually escaped, fleeing deep into the Tangled Grove, not knowing how to be in this world any longer. They missed their home, the Boreal Wood that comforted and protected, but had no way of returning, and no one to go back to.

So they stayed in the misty forest, and tried to start anew.
