Biography
GULLBAN Golden Shieldmaiden |
━━ story ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Gullban was the first warchief of the Clan. She was the first, after a tenacious battle, when she jumped on an enemy skydancer's neck, cut it violently with her claws, and took the gold necklace he wore just because it was made of gold. This first "battle trophy" made her warchief, and nicknamed "Gullban the Golden Neck", a name that suits her really well. In fact, gold is more than just a little battle trophy. It's an obsession. A pathological obsession. She NEEDS to be surrounded by gold, or she could hurt a lot of people wearing just shiny metal objects. Her place is filled with a ton of useless yet golden objects, ranging from a simple bracelet to a huge statue of a dragon, and including some real chunk of gold ore in a table. She lives for this metal. She couldn't survive without its view everyday, the shiny surface of each object reflecting in her eyes simply makes her happy. This is the main reason why she stays in Dróttningbœr. She can have all the gold she wants during the battles and the pillagings. Unless... unless Kirk stops making war to everything coming near them, what she did not so long after Gullban became a warchief. Stopping constant battle and war with her neightbors prevented the skydancer to get her daily dose of gold. And it was driving her crazy. Her room wasn't full of gold, and it wasn't good. So she started to hurt people. Everyone wearing gold jewelry or having treasures on them were in danger. One day, she went out of her place, watched everywhere around her, and saw this little hatchling with a toy. A simple wooden puppet, of a bogsneak, wearing a shield and a golden sword. The next minutes were ruled by the tears and cries of the mother, seeing the blood from this small body flowing in the ground, and this crazy dragon looking at the shiny sword with wild and fascinated eyes. It's after this tragedy that Kirk understood: Gullban wasn't just a gold-lover. She was sick, sick with a severe goldlust that was still growing inside her. |

Gullban got locked in the village's dungeon, to punish her for this awful murder, and calm her sickness until they find a solution. The majority of the population wanted to just kill her for what she did, and coming from a village mostly populated by mirrors, it wasn't surprising. Kirk didn't want to kill her, because it would means loosing one of her best warriors, and the leader of the shieldmaidens in her army. And she couldn't allow that. She needed to find something, and quick. She needed a way to either stop this sickness, or at least avoid Gullban from seeing or searching for gold. First she started a trade route with some merchants of the Fire territory. Fire dragons are known to be the best blacksmiths and jewellers of all Sornieth, and she was sure she could make a deal with them. But quickly, one of them warned her about the amount of gold needed to "cure" Gullban, and it wasn't just possible to buy this gigantic amount. She needed something else. Eitri, the blacksmith of the village, gave her an idea. He could maybe try to make a device or an accessory for the skydancer to calm her sickness? The queen liked it, and they started working on something, while Gullban was yelling at the guards in her cell. The ridgeback came up with the idea of a golden monocle, that she would obviously always want to wear because of the material it's made of. But the monocle would actually be filled with some Shadow magic, an illusionnist trick that will negates all gold or gold-like objects from Gullban's field of view. Surtur, Eitri's wife, was from Shadow, so she could work on this, while her husband was working on the monocle. Perfect idea, and all of this was made in less than a week. Everything was working well. Gullban got freed from her cell, and Kirk gifted her with this new monocle. The skydancer didn't have time to think if it was a trick of some kind, when she saw the gold around it, her sickness took the wheel and she putted it on her eye immediately. A subtil aura of light shined in her eyes, and the mirror in front of her immediately showed her a gold nugget. - What do you think of this, Gullban? asked the mirror, looking at her with intense eyes. - Well, that's just a rock. A boring rock. Can I get back to my place now? - Yes, you may. Kirk smiled after the guards escorted her to her part of the village. Gullban saw her room full of gold trinkets. She looked at everything, and just sighed before diving on her bed to think about why she was in this cell anyway. |
