*You finally break free of your tough eggshell, only to see a dragon you know cannot be your parent. Although only a hatchling, you know what a Nocturne looks like. The bulky, blue-white dragon looks remorseful, and nudges you over to another of your species. You immediately scramble over to hide under her blood-red wing, ignoring the low grumble of displeasure at you action. *Your name is Dune, and you've learned that all you were was an abandoned egg in the Sandswept Delta. If not for the egg-stealing tendencies of a pink demon and the unusual kindness of the icy guardian, you wouldn't be alive. You're lucky that this gang of faceless criminals and forgotten gods has a soft spot for orphans. Maybe it's because they understand the pain of abandonment? *That prissy skydancer and his mate found another abandoned egg. His mate, that damn pink demon, tried to sneak it past the rest of the lair and use it for her own purposes (whatever those were) but your adoptive mother immediately noticed and took it. A young nocturne yourself, you know very little about caring for eggs or baby dragons, but your mom doesn't particularly want to take care of the egg, and you can't just let it waste away! (later, you ask your mom why she stole the egg if she didn't even want it, and she insists it was just to spite Lilith; somehow, you doubt that's the complete truth.) With some help from the clan's guardians, you care for the egg, and make sure that it's healthy and safe. Then, not even a week later (on the first day of the new year, no less!) the shell starts to crack! A tiny, red and silver nocturne flops out, and all of a sudden you have a new little sister. Somehow, she's even bigger than you. |
