Raya isn’t the strongest pirate to have sailed the sky or sea, but she knows her way around and can avoid or finish fights before they even have a chance to start with her way with words, intelligence, and hyper awareness. She might not be incredibly stout physically, but her stubborn personality keeps her from being the weakest link in the crew.

Easy to form acquaintances with but difficult to form close bonds, Raya makes sure to please those she bargains with, but keeps them at least an arm’s length away from her. She knows that personal relationships are nothing to be treated like a bargaining chip and never shares her heart with anyone unless they have come to earn it.

Raya was taught long ago the proper grammar and speech of Draconic, but has freely chosen a more lewd and crass language, possibly as a habit formed from hanging around other pirates. As a result, she’s all but forgotten proper grammar.

Aside from being charismatic, Raya is cunning, and is not easily caught. Not even a Tundra could track her when she’s decided to flee.

Although often in the company of dirty, dingy, and uncouth pirates and not possessing fancy attire herself, Raya has a strange way of procuring very valuable items that should never have found their way into her possession (such as crowns, ceremonial weapons, and other Pearlcatcher’s pearls). When asked about them, she’ll shrug and respond “Found it in me coat pocket” or “Found it sittin’ in storage so it’s mine now”, giving the asker an incredibly crooked grin.

HER PAST. . .

____Raya was born and raised originally with a small Earth family in Dragonhome. Both her parents taught her and her siblings the importance of history and ancient relics, teaching Raya how to determine an object’s worth by simply looking at it. They also taught Raya to read and write, and it seemed that she would be the family’s next architect.

____ However...

____ A great earthquake struck their home. Raya’s father and one of her siblings perished in the quake, along with a majority of their clan members. Left homeless and on the verge of starvation, Raya’s mother entrusted her to a passing Plague clan that had wandered close to their home.

____ Raya was barely older than a hatchling when she left with the Plague clan, never to return to Dragonhome. It was there in her new clan that she learned survival... and the harshness of the world. Raya was not a strong child, and since her parents had emphasized learning over strength, she found it difficult to keep up with the young that were also her age. However, Raya was cunning, and would be able to convince her denmates to do things for her, such as collecting food or protecting her. Due to her wits, she survived.

____ Once she reached adulthood, Raya left the Plague clan and wandered around Sornieth for some time. In her travels she learned different traditions and what different clans preferred, allowing her to often act as mediator between trading clans. This knowledge of her acquired through travel in addition to her knowledge of artifacts made her a master negotiator.

____ It wasn’t long before some sky pirates from the Southern Icefields sought her skills aboard their own vessel. In her travels, Raya had never really been able to find a place that she felt was home. Even when she returned to Dragonhome, it was no longer hers. Here, with the sky pirates who traveled everywhere aboard their ships, she felt more in her element.

____ Now, Raya helps out aboard various pirate crews as they trade their stolen goods, and occasionally the Pearlcatcher is known to assist ordinary merchants. Although she has no particular place she calls home now, she keeps coming back to a clan in the Starfall Isles...

“Sticks ‘n stones may break me bones, but words have gotten me out o’ a pinch er two.”

“Yer all bark ‘n no bite. Even I could pin ya, ‘n I can’t even best a Fae ‘n a wrestlin’ match! Ha ha!”

“What’s say you an’ me ‘ave a little chat, hm? I got me a few things I could give ye, an’ perhaps a few favors too. Trouble is I don’t think me crew’ll be willing t’ give ‘em to ye if ye don’t let us through.”

“Oh, Icewarden’s bloody claws! Yer more unreasonable than a spoiled hatchlin’!”
