Biography

KLOeVAj.png
by Helixexe

This is thy hour O Soul, thy free flight into the wordless,
Away from books, away from art, the day erased, the lesson done,
Thee fully forth emerging, silent, gazing, pondering the themes thou lovest best,
Night, sleep, death and the stars.

- A Clear Midnight, by Walt Whitman

O soft embalmer of the still midnight,
Shutting, with careful fingers and benign,
Our gloom-pleas'd eyes, embower'd from the light,
Enshaded in forgetfulness divine:
O soothest Sleep! if so it please thee, close
In midst of this thine hymn my willing eyes,
Or wait the "Amen," ere thy poppy throws
Around my bed its lulling charities.
Then save me, or the passed day will shine
Upon my pillow, breeding many woes,—
Save me from curious Conscience, that still lords
Its strength for darkness, burrowing like a mole;
Turn the key deftly in the oiled wards,
And seal the hushed Casket of my Soul.

-To Sleep, by John Keats

~~~~~~The sky is overcast
With a continuous cloud of texture close,
Heavy and wan, all whitened by the Moon,
Which through that veil is indistinctly seen,
A dull, contracted circle, yielding light
So feebly spread, that not a shadow falls,
Chequering the ground--from rock, plant, tree, or tower.
At length a pleasant instantaneous gleam
Startles the pensive traveller while he treads
His lonesome path, with unobserving eye
Bent earthwards; he looks up--the clouds are split
Asunder,--and above his head he sees
The clear Moon, and the glory of the heavens.
There, in a black-blue vault she sails along,
Followed by multitudes of stars, that, small
And sharp, and bright, along the dark abyss
Drive as she drives: how fast they wheel away,
Yet vanish not!--the wind is in the tree,
But they are silent;--still they roll along
Immeasurably distant; and the vault,
Built round by those white clouds, enormous clouds,
Still deepens its unfathomable depth.
At length the Vision closes; and the mind,
Not undisturbed by the delight it feels,
Which slowly settles into peaceful calm,
Is left to muse upon the solemn scene.
A Night-Piece, by William Wordsworth
The god of that awkward situation where you run into someone walking the opposite direction and try to move out of their way, but they try to move out of your way in the same direction and you just end up repeatedly blocking each other. (A droitwich.) He is embarrassed by this fact, so he dresses himself up fancy and pretends to be the god of something more dignified like "night" or "tranquility". Don't be fooled.
the prince of the night court was a beautiful, kind dragon with a powerful aura about him. he was always plucking flowers for the hatchlings that stumbled around his ring-laden paws and granting (finance-related) wishes with a wave of his tail. everyone thought he was untouchable, which was good for him, because if his enemies had known that he was just as skilled at magic as the rest of their second-rate mages and assassins, he would have died a long time ago. he was wise and charming, often speaking from the heart but keeping enough head-knowledge in his words that it balanced everything out.
the prince had painted a picture of himself as the perfect ruler, loved by all except the jealous, greedy ones who wanted to snatch his power from him.
makase knew better. he - and his tiny, purple screaming manticore, aptly named wail - had been assigned as the prince's personal bodyguard since the day he was born. he'd seen the struggles the prince had with controlling his magic and how often he fell sick whenever he pushed himself too much. at this point, the guardian could say with surety that he knew the prince the best out of everyone close to him - which was a feat, considering how many people the prince called his friends.
these thoughts chase themselves around his head as he keeps watch from a fair distance, silent and poised to strike a deadly blow should anyone spring an attack on the prince. they're just strolling through the gardens, but in the lightless lands it's always midnight, and they're not exactly the most crime-less kingdom this side of the world.
the prince turns to glance at him, beckoning him closer with a wave of his paw. "makase," he starts, voice soft like the petals that cling to his wings; "if i were to leave, would you come with me?"
that... surprises him. blinking, he dips his head before answering. "yes, of course. i'd go anywhere you ask of me." at this, a satisfied look crosses the prince's face as he nods; murmuring 'of course' before resuming the slow walk. confused, makase leaps after him. "why, sire? do you plan to go somewhere...?"
a hum. "yes, actually. i think you know how many in my father's court want me gone, and that i'm hardly the best person to succeed him after he leaves us. i'm not extraordinarily skilled; i just like to read and make people happy. i sent wail out - yes, that's why he's been missing quite a bit. he found this clan; it's called detritus. i've heard that outcasts are welcomed there, so that'll be my first stop before i set out to find a better calling for me. i wish you to accompany me, but if your heart is here in the lightless kingdom, who am i to stop you?"
makase is rendered speechless for a moment. how long had the prince been planning for this? but it's only a moment; he'd follow his prince anywhere, and if he decided to break away from palace life and become a wandering dragon until he's found what suits him, so will makase.
"i vow to follow you to the ends of the earth."
and, of course, he does.
