Biography

Florence
the tavern keeper
Jasper
Gold Glasses
Redwood Log

The blast shook the den, the precious stones my mate loved so dearly falling off their shelves. I screwed my eyes shut, trying to block out the sound of the screams and destruction outside. Why are we being attacked? What did we do to deserve this? Is Lightweaver punishing us? My eyes shot open as a gut wrenching, terrible scream pierced the air. "Jasper." I exhaled sharply, recognizing the yell of my mate. Standing on shaky legs, I dared to peer out of the broken window, bits of colored glass littering the sill. I saw him, surrounded in the brightest energy I had ever seen. He was building up a wall of interlocked sunlight, piece by excruciating piece, tearing into his deepest resources of magic to protect the village from whatever that was. An earthquake, yet so much stronger, and unmistakably charged with magic. "Jasper," I whispered loudly, desperately wishing that my vocal chords weren't silenced by fear. He turned towards me, the light growing brighter all the while, as he wrapped that energy around our den. His eyes met mine, and in that split second, I felt his presence envelop me, much like the barrier surrounding our home. He mouthed, "I'm sorry," before letting out a final yell.

The den shook, the earth roared, and Jasper, he was gone. The light he had wrapped around the den brightened, then flickered, then faded. "No," I gasped. The last thing I saw was a massive wave of earth blotting out the sun.

I woke up at some point. Not sure when, not sure why, not sure how. My scales were split, my skin torn to shreds in some places, and chunks of earth embedded in me. Every motion was pain, but I had to see my village. I had to see what happened.
It was worse than I could have imagined. Bodies strewn about, dens crushed, family and friends and neighbors as bloody as myself, but very, very dead. I laid down in the rubble, sobbing. Jasper was nowhere to be found. His sacrifice meant my safety. And now, I was alone.
Day by day, I pieced myself together. Precious stones, tears, and the Lightweaver's blessing filled the wounds, protected the scars, and wove my skin together.

"There's nothing for me here," I said to the stones I had salvaged. Each one reminded me of the love I had lost, and talking to them felt like maybe, in whatever domain he was in now, he could hear me. Maybe, he could forgive me for what I was about to do. I left the den. I left my village. I wandered for days, following only my gut, until I found a small clan, the Clan of Autumnal Light. Solei, the matriarch, welcomed me in with open wings, and yet months later, I still felt as if I didn't belong. I started a tavern on the outskirts of the clan's territory, and soon, others who felt that they didn't belong in the clan joined me, and we had our own little settlement.

Months after setting up my tavern, I discovered a rip between space and time, connecting my tavern to a place in the Sunbeam Ruins. It gives off the same energy as the one that destroyed my home. I kept silent about it, and instead dedicate my time to the tavern and studying the rip. It's my duty to protect my new home, and I refuse to let anything happen to the dragons who live here.

The Outpost of Rippling Moonlight is my home now. I may never understand what happened the day that Jasper died, the day that my life was changed forever, but I do understand one thing. This rip between worlds must stay protected, no matter the cost.
