Biography
NOCHNYR
"Get out of here! I never want to see the likes of you around here again!" "I bet you go around eating guts out of the trash like the real ones." "No! That ain't true, non a' that's true! Please, I jus' wanna be friends..." Nochnyr was born in the Shifting Expanse to a conservative country bumpkin couple. They originally lived on a secluded farm in the Boreal Wood, and thus naturally had to defend their livestock and themselves from nochnyrs. Highly superstitious, the couple believed nochnyrs to be nothing but slavering, hulking savages, and they saw that creature within their child when he hatched. Imagine their horror when their first child came out of his shell looking exactly like one of them. Of course, now in lightning flight territory, they were safe, but they still clung to their fears. Not wanting to sell or abandon the child (for his mother was pitied and less fearful, though only slightly), they kept him, but not a day went by where poor Nochnyr was not reminded of just how awful his namesake, and thus he himself, was. He was not safe out of the house either. His parents had spread the meaning of his likeness to others throughout neighboring clans and factories; most of the dragons in the area had no clue what a nochnyr really was, so they just took his parents' words to mean that he was a disgusting, mindless, good-for-nothing dragon. Those who did know of the woodland creature simply stood by and did little to dispel the misunderstandings. It seemed to Nochnyr that that was how his life would forever remain, as an unlovable beast. That sentiment, however, could not be further from the truth. Despite all the heinous accusations and abuse he faced over the years, Nochnyr is an absolute angel. He was always polite, always spoke kindly, not in the hopes that others would lessen their hatred, but out of the genuine softness of his heart. His nature seemed to be detrimental, as he never tried to defend himself when he truly needed to, but it later served to save his life. He flew from the town after a bad night with bullies. Heading north, into a distant but faintly glittering horizon, Nochnyr spent days and nights in solitude. He was scared of the vast and unknown future ahead of him, but he found peace. The stars on that first night glittered, and he grew hopeful. Lingenmar found Nochnyr asleep on the ground near the border between the Expanse and the Ruins as he was on his diplomatic tour. Ordering Hayaff to go in his stead and wait at their intended destination, Lingenmar took Nochnyr under his wing and guided him to ARCA. He is now the clan’s tinkerer, fixing electric appliances, and became HUND’s caretaker after his arrival. |
