Nightmare
some nightmares only grow stronger when you wake

Pagan is evil and self-serving. As a spiral, he must eat constantly to keep up with his constant movement, and he will eat anything. He likes to strangle the larger creatures he eats. Rather than the small, furry critters that can be found scuttling in the underbrush, Pagan prefers to hunt the more satisfying, sentient beasts that attempt to claim back their ancestor's territories. He tends to follow his basest instincts, which has prevented him from making friends. He also tends to snack on any wandering familiars, also not helping him make any friends.

One thing Pagan doesn't tell anyone is that he's not real, a figment that only exists when someone, anyone believes in his existence. He is a literal nightmare made real, born from some other dragon who had incredible power, created Pagan from his or her mind, and unleashed him on the world unwittingly. He was weak upon first conception, barely existed in the same plane as his creator. A skydancer stumbled upon him by accident, her enhanced perceptions allowing her to not only see him but believe in his existence. That alone gave him more power and he realized what he was, an attention-starved dragon.

Though he has long-since lost touch with his creator, whom he'd never bothered to meet in the first place, he grows more and more powerful the more dragons who believe he exists. The only requirements for that are simply that they see him, made easier after the perceptive skydancer paved the way. As he grew more powerful, he developed certain abilities, things that helped him gain more power. He is able to enter the dreams of dragons, not as dreamwalker, an independent creature that has some base control of its surroundings in the minds of others, but as a visitor. The most important one is that he can insert himself into the events of a dream in order to gain more power.
