Alethkar the Bulwark

Ever silent and ever watchful. He speaks rarely, but he does not require words to convey just how much he cares for the Zephyr Bards. His gaze is rumored to be enough to turn a dragon to ice, but I know for certain this is just rumor. His outside may be chilly, but he has a heart of gold.
- Soylemek, the Convoy

Primary Protector, First Guard on the Breeze
Previous Mates: Lightning and Nera

The First Guard
Though Alethkar's charge is only Four, his protective care stretches to the entirety of the Zephyr Bards. He stays at their main home in the Windswept Plateau and keeps an eye on those that stay and those that come and go. He protects them from those that may wish them harm, whether other dragons or the Beastclans.

Shifted Allignments
Though Alethkar had been born in the Lightweaver's domain, he has turned his back on her teachings. Instead, he looks to the Icewarden and the Earthshaker, and sends prayers to them daily so he may always do his best to look after his clanmates.

Fellow Guards
Having been the first official protector and guard of the Zephyr Bards, it's his job to also keep track of the guards that work alongside him; some may have slightly varying jobs, but all of them have the commonality that they are there to protect the clan.

Earth and Ice

Main Header (Chapter Titles)

When he was first brought into the clan by Ariatii, he was just a playful hatchling, though always had a fascination for rocks and geology. He would constantly search about for neat rocks to bring home and, at a young age, started a large collection. He loved to study and collect them, and especially loved getting his claws on geodes so he could open them and see what was inside.

With his love for rocks came his appreciation for the Earthshaker and everything the earth flight’s god stood for. And though the young dragon, at the time, still adored the Lightweaver for her wisdom, he took on a love for Earthshaker, as well, and would constantly send the god prayers and lay out small offerings by burying them in the dirt.

He frequently accompanied Four and Ariatii when they’d travel, going with them to distant lands and then wandering away to search for rocks while they did their own thing of performing or trading or whatever they decided to do. One such trip took them down to the Southern Icefield, a cold place covered in ice and snow, and Alethkar fell in love with how deep the snow was. However, he very much disliked it, as well, since he’d have to dig through heaps of snow to try and find any sort of rocks or earth, and most of it was frozen so solidly together that it was difficult to dig into.

On this trip, he drifted further away from his clan than he had meant to, and a nasty storm was threatening to kick up. He was following the words of a traveller about a cave a little ways off of one of the beaten paths, a cave said to be made of ice that contained old artifacts and crystals. His inner Light roots shone through and he took off in search of said cave, despite the fact that a storm was brewing overhead.

Eventually, the young guardian found himself lost, and the snowstorm had begun to swirl all around him, blinding his vision. He did what he could to stay low to the ground as the snow splattered into him, but between the freezing temperature and the blinding snow, and the feeling of being hopelessly lost, Alethkar was quickly losing any energy he had to continue on. He had no idea what direction he was going anymore.

He managed to find himself up against a cliff face and collapsed down next to it, feeling the snow quickly beginning to cover his body. His hope had left him, and soon, he was sure, any remaining warmth would quickly follow.

Through his narrowed eyes, however, he thought he could see something in the distance, something that was slowly getting closer towards him. A large figure with glowing white eyes that shone out through the ice and snow. Alethkar was certain he was going crazy; he thought maybe it was the Icewarden with how daunting the figure was, a figure that surely had to be draconic.

As his eyes closed, the dragon stood over him, a mighty beast covered in white fur and leather armor. He remembered those glowing white eyes staring down at him before his own drifted shut.

When the guardian next awoke, he was safely back with his own clan, next to a fire they had set up to keep him warm. Ariatii fretted over him, asking constantly if he was alright, and all Alethkar could think about was the mysterious dragon that had rescued him. When he retold the tale to Ariatii, she seemed surprised, but then smiled and told him, jokingly, that perhaps it had been the Icewarden himself. That seemed to truly stun the guardian--had it been?

Alethkar returned home, all the while thinking of how he wanted to be as strong and powerful as the dragon that had rescued him. So he turned away from the Lightweaver’s teachings and instead began to look to the Icewarden, though continued to send thanks and ask for strength from the Earthshaker, too. Over time, and with training on his own and under some of the trainers’ guidance, he became a skilled fighter and defender of the clan.

He often took trips down to each god’s domain, both the Icefeild and Dragonhome. One trip back from Dragonhome, however, the clan was alarmed to see that half of the guardian’s body was covered in rocks, or otherwise also a disease known as ‘gembond’. It’s covered up much of his limbs and tail, as well as spotted over the rest of his body, but the guardian doesn’t seem to mind. He simply says it’s a blessing from the Earthshaker; the rest of the clan still isn’t so sure about this.

Nowadays, he spends his time at the clan’s home, protecting it from intruders or Beastclans that may wish them harm. He’s stoic and silent at first glance, but if one bothers to sit down and speak with him, he has many stories of his own to share.
