A priest dedicated to the Lightweaver, Yves has found himself the unwitting leader of Clan Clarion. As the son of priestess Adelina, who-- at least in clan legend-- was so connected to the Plaguebringer that she manifested her avatar, he has much to live up to. With Adelina now away from the clan and completely out of contact, Yves is their sole connection to the gods. He performs exaltations, leads prayers, and maintains an altar to Lightweaver. None of these are pleasant jobs; even prayers can be unsavory coming from the assassins and thieves of the clan. Exaltations get messy, and he's been learning the best ways to clean blood off of rough stone. His leadership duties include having the final say in strategic decisions, input into the mages' research, and a choice over who gets to stay with the clan. This all puts a lot of stress on Yves, and it shows in his behaviour. He isolates himself from the clan, busying himself with small details to avoid thinking about the big picture. His neuroses keep him constantly rearranging, cleaning, and grooming. His claws are impeccable, his pearl polished to a mirror-shine. His mind is always busy, and anyone who manages to approach him without his notice will hear him muttering prayers to Lightweaver under his breath. Yves isn't unkind, though; he likes to be left alone, but he knows his duties and doesn't resent those who need him. He never turns down a dragon who comes looking for help, and wants to be approachable as a leader despite how distressing he finds it. He gives good advice, and his strategic decisions are usually sound, though he will always take steps to avoid conflict, even when it's against the clan's best interests. He focuses hard on his work and the clan that became his by popular opinion, and tries not to think about the weight of expectation on his shoulders. He still hears his mother's name whispered around him, echoing through the lair. And Yves thinks that maybe if he tries hard enough, makes enough effort, praises Lightweaver enough, maybe the strange, lurking shapes in the shadows surrounding the Hewn City will leave the clan alone... |
