Murus is the Museclan’s caretaker and resident warm pillow to fall asleep against. The embodiment of the word ‘soft’, he is an ethereal and gentle soul, and can usually be found at the Nesting Ground tending to all of the eggs and hatchlings of the clan. He barely speaks louder than a hum, but can be caught from time to time singing softly to the hatchlings as they fall asleep in the evening breeze. Though he is mostly oblivious to Nasher’s obvious crush on him, Murus loves the fierce Ridgeback in his own right and is always appreciative of Nasher’s help around the hatchery. Eggs in Museclan are usually produced asexually. Dragons with the capacity to lay eggs choose whether to do so or to reabsorb the nutrients back into their bodies on a regular basis. Once eggs are laid, they are generally left in Murus' care; dragons with the capacity to fertilize eggs also choose to do so when it suits them, choosing a nest to sire often without knowing the identity of the egg-layer (though Murus keeps a weather eye out for keeping family lines separate for the health of the hatchlings). While a layer and a fertilizer may choose to have a relationship with the hatchling, either together or separately, the general practice is that hatchlings are raised by Murus and by the clan as a whole rather than by its parents or family. |
