Originally part of a Plague clan named Atramentous Mien, he was one of three survivors of an incursion that destroyed the once large, powerful clan. The attack came from nowhere, caught the whole clan off guard, and resulted in catastrophe. Everything was destroyed, yet they were able to save the clan's treasure from the attackers and escape completely unscathed. When the others ask them about their experience or for war stories, the trio grow somber and shake their heads, telling the others there was nothing to learn from the massacre.

A rough, nearly-feral dragon, Drexelius was raised in a violent clan where survival literally depended on your ability to kill. Though he does not kill nearly as much as he used to, he is still rather violent by nature. He is not good in social situations, terrible at expressing his emotions. He would rather claw into someone than tell them with words that he's upset by something they've done. Penumbra is able to calm him, but Taphos is the one that keeps him both sane and away from the executioners. Drex will do anything Taphos asks of him, almost anything Penumbra asks of him, but otherwise does not take instruction very well. He is fiercely protective of both of his old clanmates.
