Crimson and cream are the colours of her banner, of fresh blood and bleached bone, and the unhealthy yellow haze smearing the scarlet horizon. They were the colours of the Plaguelands, and of her sleek plumage, groomed carefully by a skeletal beak. Born a flightless gembond Snapper into the position of clan Queen, she felt she never really knew who she was, and with power came a privileged loneliness. Though dragons were quick to praise her beauty, her aloofness was seen as snobbery, and her quiet demeanor as haughty. Umbriel, though distant, was neither of these things. The stress of social situations and struggle with connections sent her deep within herself. The isolation was both a curse and a comfort.

While the boys squabbled and fought over the leadership of the Plaguelands clan, Umbriel settled in the cool gloom of the ruined citadel, with its tunnels and dungeons snaking deep below the earth. She was a survivor and a predator, a true-blooded Plague dragon, and the wastes were her home - but here they could safely roost, to rinse the acid rain from their feathers, dust the death spores from their coats, and scrape the rot from their scales.

Umbriel spent many seasons living with the Anor Londo Clan, an ancient lair in the Lightning Farm, as a diplomat and an observer. In Blackrock Mountain she came into contact with the guarded and mysterious exorcist, Raven. Umbriel's internal struggle resonated with Raven. In order to maintain her independence and fierce will in the face of danger, she too, must steel herself against unnecessary emotions. Together perhaps, they could share a little vulnerability?

Though both are kept busy and lead private lives, those who watch them keenly could surely detect that Raven and Umbriel had feelings for one another.
