Biography

Living Flame

Very first member of this lair's nature den:
Deciduous was taken in by the Gladekeeper when he had nowhere else to go. He feels he should be her mouthpiece instead of Damianos, yet she didn't choose him? His angry firey nature just could not be trusted in her spirit realm to guide others to her. It could barely be trusted to look after a few plants. At first he was angry that she would overlook him for another dragon that was also not even of nature origin. He would understand if a nature hatched dragon was necessary but Damianos is of Wind decent no matter how green his eyes appear. His anger and jealousy would burn away swaths of grassland and forests when he could no longer contain it! He would feel guilty at such a betrayal but even then the Gladekeeper did not punish him? The other nature dragons would be weary of him but those in the nature den trusted the Gladekeeper's judgement and still welcomed him. Even Damianos told him that the Gladekeeper did have a plan for him.

And one night in his dreams the Gladekeeper did come to him. He didn't even know which emotion to express first for he knew this was as real as any spirit world. All he could ask her was "Why?" She knew all the things he did and felt yet still cared for him and invited him to be part of the nature den.

"You look so forlorn my child," she spoke gently. "Do not be so sad. I chose you as my first follower for a reason. Do you know nature would stagnate if there was no destruction? No Fire? It is necessary for all creatures to adapt and become better so they may continue living. If things were always the same they may as well be dead."

"I.. you need my fire?"

"Yes child. You must burn the fields when it is necessary. When I ask. Some seeds can only germinate if burnt and smoking. You bring life to them with your heat. You no longer need to feel angry, rather be joyful at your role Now are you ready to accept?"

"Yes," he truly was.

"I must warn you, for this you too will have to burn to change. It will be painful but it is what I named you for, Deciduous. You must drop and burn your old leaves to move on and sprout new life in your wake."

"I want nothing else," he affirmed.

"Very well, I am proud of you."

The searing started from inside. Was his own fire really going to burn him like this? It's alright, this is what he accepted. It became worse and he started to smoke. His skin was burning but he would endure. He needed to. He tried to spit the fire out but it clawed deeper. This is what the plants he burnt felt. They could not run or put themselves out or even try to fly away. He suffered like they would and just as he thought it would become too much and leave him a charred stump, he felt a different kind of warmth. It was strangely soothing even after he had wished to never feel heat again. It was like something had cracked open inside him and spilled a honey warm ooze from his chest. It cocooned him and held him tenderly with the feeling of new beginnings and new life.
"You are whole," He heard her say. "Wake my Living flame."

Damianos was there when he woke up. "I see you accepted then, good" he smiled.

After that dream his body had turned smokey and his horns were darkly charred. His eyes seemed to smoulder, just at the edge of catching fire while he always smelled of something burning. But his wings remained a brilliant green even as he set fire to acres and acres of flora, the only green dot to be found.
