Unfortunate hatchlings wound up lost deep within many lairs, forbidden from a joyful embrace until they one by one are picked off to serve the deity. Caution rode the wind for Algaenon who had seen countless disappear without a trace. Her omniscient gaze drove away many dragons in fear and disgust.

She managed through her childhood long enough to learn to take flight on her own, which was when she would stray far from her lair days at a time to rest upon the tranquil presence of a forest; her Oasis. She buried her favorite stones and crystals, as she was still a child at heart. Algaenon shooed away spirits who wished to bring illness to the forest, a quirk she discovered she had. She could see all spirits; those who died, those who wished to bring evil, and those who fed off of the living.

Each spirit put her on edge, especially knowing the unknowing creature that the spirit loomed above would be struck with misfortune. Several times, she had tried to chase the spirits away, but only the creature would react and run, dragging the spirit with it. Other times, the spirit would angrily attack at her. Algaenon, just as any other dragon, was born a creature of the living, therefore she had no way to grasp at the dwelling spirits. The spirits would learn to burn at her eyes until she retreated to another area.

During her last and final retreat, she made an unsettling discovery; a trail of dying spirits that lead to a small mound of dead creatures; all dead from the spirit's doings. She had not a second to weep for the innocent, as she heard a loud and hideous shrill of the all too familiar spirits deeper within the woods.

Something else is interfering with a spirit?!

She approached the noise, growing louder and ringing harder in her ears. She peered over a fallen log to discover a purple skydancer killing a rabbit bound to a spirit. He then proceeded to kill the spirit.

He could see spirits. He could touch spirits..

She inhaled sharply in surprise, snapping his head her way. It was then she noticed that he, too, had adorned over his entire body several piercing eyes.

The male skydancer who later introduced himself as Lumine had been making frequent visits to the forest, hunting out the spirits. He could not see the freely floating ones, but could identify which creature hosted a spirit. Upon killing the creature, he would be able to see the spirit directly after, which he would kill by absorbing its essence and materializing the spirit so that his claws could scratch at it. Unfortunately, he only stained his scales a darker purple as time went on, and resulted in his existence being on the brink of life and spirit; almost as if he was the bridge between both forms.

He'd only had his eyes left; the only purest part left of his body. Naturally, the essence would leak out of his wings, but the stains on his body would never fade. Algaenon came to realize her eyes would only burn at the contact of the spirit's soul. Her eyes would otherwise be able to repel the essence of the spirits. In other words, she could prevent the skydancer from straying too far from the living, and keep his scales from darkening with enough company. In turn, Lumine could attack the spirits, and use her eyes as an aid to kill those that he could not see.

Eventually, she followed Lumine to his lair, a curious visit to the place he proudly boasted about. To her surprise, the community there reacted pleasantly and with plenty of bright gazes. Despite the intimidating number of dragons there, not a single one winced at her sight. She took a look around and spotted two young hatchlings wreaking havoc by a nearby pond. Their eyes captured her interest; one flashing rapidly like lightning, the other glistening and showing off a runic symbol, reminding her of the arcanes. Upon returning to the Oasis, she'd end up returning several times afterward.

It was only a lucky coincidence, but Algaenon found value in her eyes, a trademark of her character, something she considered to once be a curse, to become a blessing.
