Biography
Dustin Perry Shopkeeper | True Neutral | Is he depressed because he lost his pearl, or did he lose his pearl because he's depressed? Truly a mystery Dustin is a somewhat overworked Pearlcatcher who runs the local general store, inherited from his grandparents. He's worked there for his entire adult life, and while not particularly glamorous, hey, it's a living. The most notable thing about him, aside from his ostentatious fashion sense which thoroughly conflicts with the rough demeanor he exhibits, is that he doesn't have a pearl-- something that, while only a small curiosity to most, is a major taboo among Pearlcatchers. He was never the most watchful over it as a kid, and it was small, beating out only the pearls of new hatchlings in terms of size. He didn't add to it a lot-- Dustin hadn't had a very exciting childhood, after all, what was there to commemorate, to remember? And one day, he just...misplaced it. Lost it. Maybe he left it somewhere. To avoid scandal at family reunions, he considered buying a faux pearl (they are sold, if you know where to look), but found a juvenile starsweeper for sale and felt a kinship with the little guy. As long as he keeps his new "pearl" in a pack, no one will know the difference, and he'd be far from the first Pearlcatcher to be pearl-shy, though it reeks of low-self esteem-- or, indeed, having something to hide. He cares deeply for the creature (which he never named), and takes the best care of it he can, a difficult feat considering how little is known about them. On the rare occasion something particularly important happens to him, he usually just excuses himself to throw up and dispose of the ichor, rather than trying to fashion a new pearl. There's no point, really. Overall, he's a fairly low-key person, if a bit grumpy. Poor guy could use a little bit of happiness in his life, though. |
