Biography
Who is Artemis? Oh, only the most acclaimed alchemist and sorcerer in the kingdom. His boldness in the way he pushed both magic and science to its very limits made for countless discoveries where others in his field were simply too full of cowardice to try. He shaped our modern understanding of the world itself, he put the power of knowledge into dragons' hands, he -- okay, okay, I'll stop. The long and short of it is that I--he was invaluable to the kingdom, which makes what happened to him so tragic and shocking.
You see, poor Artemis was betrayed by the foul Kingdom of Shaded Leaves. After everything he did for them, you'd think they could forgive one simple misdeed... As if none of them have ever thought about necromancy themselves! After being found out and snitched on by the Archivist, Ivor, he was banned from practicing his craft by order of the Queen for reanimating just one or two corpses because they were "dangerous" and "against the will of nature." He knew well that was her way of skating around the real reason of "I don't like that you have that kind of power knowing you'd never use it to help me."
Now that the kingdom's under new management, though, he finds himself quite appreciated. King Cadaverine happens to like the idea of necromancy, and has put him to work formulating a way to make undead dragons that had enough brains about them to follow orders. He doesn't quite care about the implications of the regent wanting an undead army -- only the excitement that he gets the privelge of making one. He and the king have a very good relationship thanks to his eagerness to turn Cadaverine's twisted dreams into reality with experiments the old Queen would never allow.
His rank is ROYAL ARTISAN and he has no permanent mate.
