Jane is a mirror who was cursed to be a mere hatchling for the rest of her life. She has no recollection of her previous life, and has a tendency to be feisty and an annoyance to others in the flight. Due to her valuable skills and long service to the flight, the rest of the flight tends to be very gentle with her. Jane is a fantastic scribe with a unique ability to write in multiple languages, making her invaluable. Her limited attention span is only surpassed by her love of meat, and because of this, she will happily sit still for hours, transcribing and reading out foreign texts for a generous slice of fresh meat. When she isn't actively working, she's off causing problems, namely bothering the few dazed hatchlings that manage to survive at the base of the mountain. She's also been known to antagonize the feral dragons who live there and has almost been eaten several times after getting captured.

Her former mate, Geras, and her child, Blake, have both stayed by her side to protect her. She is also the niece of the previous flight leader, Ira, although she was only slightly younger than him.
