Biography
Saturn, Moonbeam and Nightshade came next, and they came together. About a month after Pyre had gotten settled, Cirrus and Kalen were working on making the dam larger again. Kalen had slowly brought a great pile of logs and brambles, and Cirrus had delved into the woods to collect as much sap as she could carry. The dam now was almost as wide as it was long, and was getting taller by the day. But it still wasn't enough space; their charges would only grow larger, and to accommodate them their home must grow larger, too.
They were about halfway through the logs before the two of them felt that now all-too familiar feeling of being watched.
A little ways away were two dragons, trying and failing to hide in the gloom; their vividly coloured scales and eyes not doing them any favours in the task.
They still looked to be quite young things, with an unusual amount of bruises, gashes and scrapes. But at least they didn't seem to be helpless hatchlings...
Cirrus looked at Kalen. Kalen looked back at her, catching the look in her eye and speaking up.
"If you're more lost souls looking for a home, you could at least help us make the room for you."
This didn't seem to be the response the two of them expected, since they spent a few minutes standing there in confused silence before finally venturing out into the open, and starting to help. It was at this point that they saw the third dragon; the hatchling she had been at this point expecting, carried carefully on the Skydancer's back.
The two eldest ones were much more talkative than the hatchlings had been, and they told their stories readily. Their names were Moonbeam and Saturn respectively, and the little one was Nightshade. They were indeed lost souls; cast out from their clans for reasons none of them were willing to discuss. Nightshade and Moonbeam were from the same one; Saturn was another unfortunate clanless one that Moonbeam had happened to come across as he was traversing the sea of a thousand currents. They had no idea where to go, and were simply travelling from place to place, trying to find somewhere safe where they might find a home for themselves.
Adolescents they might be, but these dragons were perfectly capable of pulling their own weight already, and looked like the sort who would learn quickly, so Cirrus told them that they could stay as long as they liked with her and her mate, so long as they listened and helped when help was needed.
They said they would stay a week. A week turned into two, turned into three, turned into four. The dam got bigger, big enough that it blocked the flow of more than one of the many deltas across the river.
At each side of their growing home, Kalen placed a sign, with big, bold lettering carved into the wood:
