Biography
The Baker
Begonia grew up in a bar. Not a seedy bar, you understand. A perfectly respectable seaside bar called Barque run by a perfectly respectable seaside fae. It wasn't a bad place to grow up, as growing places go. Begonia had plenty of time to play outside and explore, to learn to swim and fly under the watchful eyes of her loving parents. She grew up happy and free, learning to talk to all sorts of folks, as one does growing up around a business.
The young Imperial takes after her father more than her mother. She is soft-spoken and friendly, like he is, but she lacks a lot of his stubbornness. Still, she's about as grounded and well-adjusted as it's possible to be. Nobody has ever seen Begonia freak out. The closest was when her mother heard her use the word "phooey," after an oven caught fire.
She had always been encouraged and supported in following her dreams. It wasn't until Barque got its very own wood-fired oven that Begonia found her calling. The bar staff kept a watchful eye on her while she stuck all sorts of things in the oven: from unfinished lumps of dough to abandoned bird eggs, it all seemed to disappear into the firebox. It took a traveling chef, just passing through, to introduce Begonia to the art of the recipe.
Begonia took to baking like a fish to water. Soon, her soufflés rivaled those of lifelong bakers in the nearby clans. She took to making gorgeous wedding cakes, layer atop layer, almost as tall as a ridgeback. Tarts and pies, sweet and savory, cheesecakes and bundts galore. After all, baking was just chemistry. She even, occasionally, let her parents help prep ingredients. Her beetle pie á la mode was a big hit with her ice cream loving mother.
Like all young dragons, though, Begonia needed to stretch her own wings sooner or later. After she developed her craft to the point she felt she could make a living off of it, she bade a tearful goodbye to her parents and set off west. She traveled around for a while, always keeping in touch, before she saw a job posting for a permanent position as a baker in Lightning territory. On a whim, she applied. And, after her audition, got the position. The amount of resources Clan AXQU had surprised her to no end. She'd hit the big time, and the other culinary staff welcomed her with open arms.
Begonia often finds herself being the mom-friend; she is one of the most well-adjusted dragons in the lair. Though she can't relate to the tragic pasts around her, she can offer comfort and a cupcake.
Bad days and diets stand no chance against Begonia's baking prowess, and the chubby little imperial wouldn't have it any other way.
