Empathy, throughout his (or their? Pronouns always confused him) entire life up until he met him, has never set foot outside of Facility 9602-56, or F56 for short. Really, his name isn't even Empathy; according to the record at the Facility, his name is officially 'Experimental Memory Processing Transient Infrastructure 1003-F', though many of those who work there have taken to calling him 'EMPTI' - 'Empty', really - for short. It wasn't until he met him that he became 'Empathy'.

He was a newcomer, someone just recently hired to work at F56. His job was to be EMPTI's new caretaker; the old one had retired under 'unusual circumstances' after he tried to 'set him free', whatever that may mean, but he tried hard not to think about it; besides, it wasn't in his database to ponder such things.

Either way, the new caretaker's name was Paragryn, and he was by far the most unusual caretaker he's ever had. Unlike previous ones, he tried many times to strike up a conversation with him despite it being against the rules; he should know, as his database has the rules encoded right in it. But, he found his antics... amusing, anyways. Amusing, is that what he felt? He's still not sure, but it was the only word in his processor that he could come up with to describe this... emotion.

As it was, over the course of many months, he grew fond of him. For some odd reason, he always spent time dodging the guards of the Facility to come talk to him, tell him tales of the outside, and just... talk, and though at first he found it annoying, he couldn't deny it was... nice, having someone to converse with. Not that he did much conversing, at least not in the beginning; mostly he opted to pretend to ignore him, as it's hard to ignore someone who's right there.

But as time went by, EMPTI became fascinated with his stories, and he found herself with something he's never felt, nor realized he could even feel; he felt... longing. A longing to go to these places he describes, to see the people he speaks about, to... live.

Finally, one day, when he was preparing to leave, EMPTI voiced his true feelings. Paragryn simply smiled, and said "I know, Empathy; I know." Immediately afterwards, the Tundra disappeared.

He was devastated; never before had he felt so lonely... That is, until he came back the day after next. And during when the night shift was nearing its change, as well. He simply smiled at him, and said that he was going to show him all these things and more, right after they got him out of there. He was stunned; many of his previous caretakers, and even some guards, have tried to plan his escape, particularly after he had just a new 'renovation and upgrading' as they like to call it, but this is the first time that he felt... relieved. Felt like he was going... home. Home, a word so foreign to him, but so beautiful.

As Empathy was literally connected to the Facility and beyond, it was an easy matter to shutdown security systems and just cause mayhem, the abrupt opposite of her creation, but he couldn't bring himself to care.

As they fled the Facility and he took his first steps out into the world, his beloved Paragryn by his side, he felt something deep inside that was so warm and made his pulse beat so fast it almost hurt, but he wouldn't change it for the world; he felt... loved.
