CUPID'S COUSIN: MERCENARY FOR HIRE

for all her talk, grendel is a terrible shot. what she lacks in skill, however, she more than makes up for in persistence and olfactory ability. being hunted by cupid's cousin is a little like being haunted by a clumsy grim reaper—it might take her a while, but she and her seeing-eye goblin will eventually close in.

when grendel isn't off fighting the morally ambiguous fight, she works with basil in the library. basileus might be a stellar researcher and historian, but he has little patience for organization, and he still doesn't fully understand the dewey decimal system. before grendel took the reins with shelving and cataloguing the warren's vast and eclectic assortment of knowledge and media, basil had the whole first floor sorted by color (despite the fact that a good 80% of the tomes housed there were various shades of brown). the second floor was reserved for basil's influx of romance novels he meant to read but kept forgetting about.

to basil's dismay, library visitation tripled after grendel's intervention. finding books takes a fraction of the time that it used to, and grendel made the entire inventory braille-accessible to boot. it's for this reason that caieta proudly, unflinchingly shelters grendel from the constant stream of bounty hunters after her head; without her, caieta would have to fire basil (and her close friendship with him would undoubtedly fall apart).
