Biography

In the wake of the shattering of the Pillar and the birth of the Dragon race there were those who were determined to learn from history and avoid past mistakes by maintaining harmony between the Flights, no matter how difficult the task might seem. While unable to prevent the constant small conflicts that arise due to the often inimical natures of the Elemental Flights, these peacekeepers have managed to prevent conflicts from turning into all out wars that might jeopardize the safety of the very world. These peacekeepers are remarkable both for their devotion to their Flight and Element as well as their willingness to leave it and live as an impartial observer and occasional judge in a distant and often hostile realm. The rare individuals chosen are unequaled in loyalty and must possess numerous skills in areas as varied as military, diplomacy, magic, history and reason to name a few. While not all individuals possess all such skills in equal measure, they each have something that sets them apart. These are the individuals chosen to watch over the Nature Flight, and all that dwell within its comforting branches.

A cunning and clever seductress now known only by her title of Shadowborn, she will forever remain a mystery, which suits her well. It was a hard earned title, but one she wears with pride. The story behind the circumstances in which she earned it is known only to her, but it began many years ago when she was a mere treasure hunter, gathering forgotten things from the far reaches of the world and bringing them back to the Foxfire Bramble to enrich herself and her clan. One of the best at seeking out riches and strange artifacts from times long past, the story of great treasure hidden in the uppermost branches of the Behemoth at the center of the Viridian Labyrinth soon reached her ears. Of course this drew her as a flame draws moths and she left her home to travel to the domain of the Gladekeeper. The trip seemed an easy one until she found herself impossibly lost in the Everbloom Gardens.

The overabundance of exotic foods of all kinds was a constant distraction for her keen senses and every time she took to the air to orient herself the perfume of fruits and flowers rising through the air like a green-gold haze clouded her mind and dulled her senses. In her favor, the same phenomenon seemed to have all those who dwelt in the gardens in its hold and her meandering course was unnoticed by the natives. Her natural stealth and cunning served her well despite her dull colors causing her to stand out like a sparrow in a flock of parrots. After the heady aroma of the Gardens the Gladeveins was a breath of fresh air and the Shrieking Wilds felt almost like home. It was there that a great sense of peace and belonging overcame her, though she did not understand its significance at the time. To her it seemed nothing more than homesickness brought about by the almost familiar shadows she found herself sheltered by. In fact, at that moment, she wanted nothing more than to take wing into the unknown above, burst through the canopy and fly back to the Tangled Wood. It would have been so easy, but to do so would have been to admit failure, so she pressed on, eventually reaching the Behemoth.

There she found a single, massive seed as dark and shining as polished obsidian amidst its otherwise lush and green branches. The seed was as large as her head and the moment her claws touched it she felt a wave of something almost like understanding. This seed was a mirror. She knew that much from touching it, but how it could have been a mirror was beyond her, for though its surface shone in the dim light, it revealed nothing. Uncertain of the importance of what she had found, she returned to her home, the trip back far easier than getting there had been. She took the seed straight to the Forum of the Obscured Crescent, intending to throw it into the pool there as an offering to the Shadowbinder, yet the moment the seed left her grasp she knew she had made a mistake. In a moment of something resembling madness she dove in to the inky depths of the pool, forever staining her dull scales a shining purple-black. It was as though the seed was calling to her, for even without sight or senses to guide her through the murky gloom she found it and returned to the surface, gasping for breath. As air entered her lungs a thought entered her mind, that she was to return the mirror of black to the heart of jade.

Guided by that thought she returned to the Viridian Labyrinth, having earned the name of Shadowborn, where she was welcomed in as one of a select few. Though she does not fully understand how or why she serves her role, she does so willingly and in such a way that all who know her would never guess that her deeds are as much a mystery to her as they are to the rest of the world.
