Lore notes:

-Fought alongside his long-time friend Shamra in a battle against the Emperor plaguing the Light territories
-Fought for days against the Emperor until...something...happened. All he remembers is waking up battered and bloody, the Emperor far off in the distance
-Had been separated from Shamra, and was about to make his way back to the battle (though he most certainly would've died) when suddenly an angelic voice started guiding him in the other direction
-The voice led him to several small groups of survivors, both soldiers and civilians. Among them he found Shamra.
-The voice instructed him to gather all the survivors and lead them away from the desolation
-After a long, slow, and painful journey, the voice led Cedric to an area of unclaimed land in Wind territory. The group set up a campsite that eventually turned into a small town, then a large city, then a mighty kingdom
-Cedric, who'd been a steadfast, kind, and helpful figure for the survivors, was named King
-After marrying Yvaine, a nocturnal dragon, he had two magical medallions created for the two of them. His would absorb energy from the sun and allow him to stay awake longer into the night, and Yvaine's would absorb energy from the moon to allow her to stay awake longer into the day. These energy-providing medallions allow the two of them to spend plenty of time together in spite of their differing sleep schedules.
