LUMINA

Lumina was born a reef awoken. When she was eleven years old, her mother went mad and decided to run away with another group of awoken (a cult) who decided to go back to earth, where they would start their own colony. They moved in the cold winter, and landed far from the Last City. When the group began to get ill from the cold, they decided to seek shelter at the Last City until they could create their own colony. As they traveled, Lumina's mother grew ill and succumbed to it. Orphaned, Lumina continued with the group towards the City. Before they could reach the Last City, they were ambushed by creatures that Lumina only remembers flashes of. She remembers teeth, and blood red on snow. Her arm had been severed and her head split open by claws.

Something scared the monsters off, or they left on their own- Lumina doesn't know, but she did eventually wake up on an Eliksni Ketch. She had been picked up by a friendly group of Eliksni, taken in by the house's baroness. She had lost her right arm in the accident, and her arm was replaced with the arm of a dreg. Surprisingly enough; it worked. (With the help of some Ether and therapy.) Lumina took well to her new house, and a new mother who cared more about her than her real mother ever could. The Baroness was partnered with the Kell, who gladly excepted her as his own after a short time.

Lumina grew up with the Eliksni house that saved her life, earning her rank in the house just like any other Eliksni would. From Dreg, to Captain. She began to lead teams, patrol, and the entire house accepted her as one of them. She, by all means but birth, was Eliksni. However, there were times when she wanted to explore the system- explore the history of the Awoken past the Reef. The Dreaming City. One day she sneaks into the City- now locked down for normal Awoken. It was there she met a baby Ahamkara, and grew fond of the small strange creature. It was just as amused by her as she was it. Lumina didn't know what the small creature was, and had no wishes for it when it asked. While conversing with the young Ahamkara, the two were attacked by the Hive. Elite units, under the command of Savathun. Despite her best efforts, Lumina was still only one, and she could not protect the Ahamkara. Both Awoken and Ahamkara died at the hand of the hive.

It was then, that Riven took interest in Lumina. This Awoken had found joy in the offspring, had not intended to use or hunt the hatchling, and had laid down her own life to help protect if despite having no chance against elite Hive. It was because of the Devotion Lumina showed, and her own Self-Sacrifice leading up to her Death, Lumina was granted a wish by Riven.

'To protect the ones I love the most.'

And Riven granted this, a year later, when a small ghost was wondering through the Dreaming City. Riven, without letting herself be known, calls to the ghost.

'There is someone you should find here.'

Lumina would come to name that ghost Nyx after her rebirth.
