She stood alone in the back of the garden, observing. The leaves were covered in a thin, white layer. Not snow, but a crispy layer of ice. They looked like they always had, yet different. The transparent ice enhanched their colour and made them sparkle, which was wonderful, but the plants no longer swayed in the breeze. So this is winter, she thought. "Everything ... Stops?" She said the words out loud, careful as if afraid to stop as well.

She had been the first up, as usual, but now she slightly regretted it. What if the others wouldn't wake up? What if they were frozen like the flowers? She stood for a few minutes, waiting for the ice to creep up on her as well. It didn't, and the sun started to climb the horizon. Dragons started to bustle about, and she relaxed. Dragons didn't freeze in the winter. On her way back trough the garden she muttered "Stupid hatchling tales" and picked up her pace as she spotted a familiar face. "Hey, wait up!" she called and took to her wings for extra speed.
