CITLALICUE
Goddess
"There is no such thing as emptiness."
Once, the cosmos was empty. There were no stars, no planets to fill the void, and it passed by endlessly, though there was nothing to be passed, not even time.
But then there was Citlalicue. At first, she and the cosmos were empty together, but she soon sought deeper companionship. With a mighty roar, she brought into being the whole universe, as well as life and death. Rather than commanding it, though, she instead fashioned a consort for herself, along with physical forms for them both. In those forms, they came to reside on Sornieth for the first time, even before Sornieth's first four major deities began to shape the world. Untroubled by the efforts of lesser deities, neither Citlalicue nor her consort intervened. They watched the rise and fall of the Shade, the legacy of the Speaker, and the failures of the Arcanist, all without batting an eye.
However, even a goddess of creation can only sustain her powers for so long, and as the eons passed, Citlalicue's strength diminished. By the time Sornieth began to recover from apocalyptic levels of destruction, the goddess and her partner were forced to inhabit the forms of mere dragons in order to survive. As each host body died, its resident deity would have to latch onto a new, blank host, and in this way, Citlalicue and her beloved were separated, drawn to hosts terribly far apart.
Citlalicue's current form, unlike others she has previously taken, lends her a great deal of physical strength. With her massive size, she can withstand a greater backlash from the magic she employs in search of her consort. More confusing than prior forms, though is an inexplicable desire to protect that gnaws at her gut. The Guardian's Search is not a foreign concept to her, but to experience the desperate, keen wanderlust for herself is all too different from merely hearing the rumors. To successfully eke out her consort's whereabouts, though, she cannot wander far from the origins of the spells she casts, not until they are complete. As a result, she has become mates with Quetzalcoatl, another of the early gods locked in mortal form. The magical effort required to create divine children exhausts Citlalicue enough that she does not have the strength to pursue what is bound to be a fleeting devotion in her immortal life. However, no magic can sate her curiosity, and sometimes as she lies awake beneath the stars she created, she wonders what her charge might be.
